If you were close to your grandfather and they won't let you leave work then your supervisors are heartless.

I had the same thing happen to me years back. My Grandfather died and my folks came to pick me up at the job because we were heading to New Jersey for the Funeral, we lived on Long Island.

I worked at a Processed Food Company at the time (Jelly, Salads etc that you find at Condiment stands etc).

The Woman who was the owner and Boss said unless it is I who died that I better not leave or be fired. I left so I was fired on the spot.

Good for you. Glad you didnt let a job take over your life.

People like your (ex)boss are morons. That type of stuff makes me so mad when I hear about it.

you should be able to go.

my theory is this: would the boss be able to leave if his/her grandfather died? Yes!
so your grandfather is just as important as theirs!

Please tell me what company you work for so I know to avoid them. :|

My condolences. :(

I still remember when my Grandfather passed away 12 years ago. It was a Saturday night and I was a sophomore in college. Had been partying all night, pretty liquored up, and my mom calls at 1 am to tell me the news. Now, I know I wouldn't have passed any breathalyzers, but I now know what the term "a sobering moment" means. My brother in-law came and picked me up at 2am and we drove the 7 hours to be home with the family classed be damned. All my profs gave me breaks on missed stuff.

Where do you work? McDonalds or K-Mart? I got leave for my grandfather's funeral/viewing which was yesterday. Then I'm going to get leave as well for his burial. That sucks and I'd write to speak to higher management.
