He went into the hospital on Easter due to pneumonia, had a massive heart attack after we visited. They couldn't do anything beyond medicate him for the heart due to his ongoing renal failure (since he entered the hospital). He passed away today at the age of 87.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. My grandfather passed away two years ago. I remember him fondly, but miss him dearly.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Lost my Gramps back in 2009 to cancer. Remember the good times; it's a cliche, but it's all I got.

My condolences. My grandfather passed more than 40 years ago at the age of 77.

One thing about this life we live...no one gets out of it alive.

Condolences to you and your family.

Two years ago influenza overtook my grandmother's body, including her kidneys and lungs, and she became EXTREMELY ill. Two rounds of antibiotics did almost nothing. Colloidal silver, liposomal colostrum/glutathione and enteric coated probiotics is ultimately what killed the infection, bolstered her immunity and saved her. :)

Mine just had a stroke yesterday and he's probably going to go any day now. I feel for you on this one. Condolences.

My grandfather passed away April 10th - he was also 87. He entered the hospital for pneumonia back in February - he also had COPD, congestive heart failure and a few other issues as well. He was able to recover, but a day or two after he was released from the rehab center, he was in an accident. They discovered he broke his C2 vertebrae, and from there it was basically downhill.

Really sucks, but he was with us for awhile. Our family got to play bingo with him one last time before he was released and my mom & aunt were with him when he passed.

OMG, the Angel of Death wanted him bad.

He smoked since he was 13 or something crazy like that, but it was over 70 years. Every morning, since my grandmother passed away in 2002, he's eaten donuts & cereal (which he uses half & half or cream) as well as regularly eating out at places like Red Lobster and Olive Garden. He had one hell of a social life, and 5 nights of the week he would be out from 5pm until 1 or 2am playing bingo or penuckle, with one of the nights going until 7am. He retired from the Army after 30 years as a SGM (E-9), after being "forced" in when the judge gave him the choice of military or jail for GTA. One hell of a card & pool shark as well.

OP, sorry for your loss - you're going to get tired of hearing that. Just remember all the good you can, that's what makes him live on.

There is nothing any of us can say to make it easier. I am glad you posted because at least it helps let you express your hurt which helps heal. We hear you and hope the best for you.

Sorry for your loss. Grandpas are awesome. I miss mine and tear up every time I think about him. If grandma's around, be there for her. It might mean everything to her.

He was the last of my grandparents. I never knew my dad's father or my mom's mother.

Yeah. It's not nearly as bad as when my uncle passed away last year from stage 4 colon cancer (that was kind of a surprise to us all). When someone gets up there in years, you know that it's coming one day. I think back to the good times we all had together and the fact that I was lucky to know my grandfather for nearly 26 years.
