My GPU heats up my CPU!

Desktop rig in sig, Q9300 @ 3.0 and a GTX460 1GB @ 820.

Have been running F@H on both the CPU and GPU, on both rigs.

Rig on the left, temps were around 72C on both the CPU and GPU.
When I shut down the GPU, temps on the CPU, still running at 100% on all four cores, dropped to 60C.

So it appears that the GPU is heating up the air in my case, and that is affecting the temp of my CPU. Quite a bit, really.

So I think I have poor airflow in my case. It's a CoolerMaster Elite 310. I like the look of the front panel, but for airflow it's not great. It has a rear 120mm exhaust, and the PSU is an Antec EarthWatts 650, but it doesn't exhaust that much air.

I think that the front panel is perforated, at least it looks that way cosmetically.

Computer is in a cubby-hole under a desk.

If there aren't any fans in your front panel, you should consider adding an intake fan there. Bringing cool air into the case is just as important as getting warm air out.

All ATX form factors heat the CPU with the GPU because hot air rises. To truly fix it you need one of those Raven cases that rotates the motherboard 90 degrees.

When a GPU fan speeds up at load, it does take away some of your intake that would normally go to your CPU. Plus, there is always heat leakage gtom the GPU that will go up towards your CPU. I inf the situtation normal as it happens to me as well.

There are ways to fix this. Bigger case, more fans, adjusting fan speeds, different coolers, water, etc. Just try the cheapest solutions first and work up from there.

Your computer is in a cubby hole? Jesus take it out!
Especially if its the kind that seals off most air in the back.

This. Everyone else is posting non-sense. There's just hot air in a cubby-hole. You're taking hot air from the cubby and circulating it.... within the cubby. OP take the damn computer out.
