Well was coming home from the Texans/Bucs preseason game here in Houston and happened to get behind a black Chevy truck at the 610 & I-10 junction. Didn't really think much of it, but as I was behind him going west on I-10 the truck was moving side to side every now and then. He wasn't crossing any lines, yet. Interestingly, the further we travelled the worse the guy seemed to get, nearly hitting a semi, almost hitting the median barrier, slowing way down for no apparent reason. Noticing his erratic driving I tailed him the best I could, so not to allow other cars inbetween us and to keep an eye on his driving. The further we got the more my wife and I deliberated calling the police for what we believed to be a drunk driver.

Finally, the the straw that broke the camels back was when he again almost hit a semi, but this was close enough that the semi had to swerve into the right lane (we were driving in the left fast lane going anywhere between 55mph and 85mph). So I called 911 (I know not an emergency, but what other number could I call?), which dispatched me to the Houston police department. Well by the time the picked up, we had crossed over to the Harris County jurisdiction. By the time I got transferred there, we crossed into the Katy city jurisdiction - by this time we were also in the middle lane. As I'm describing the erratic behavior of the driver in front of me (he was getting worse and worse) and giving the location that we were at, a Katy cop comes flying by my left side (we were going about 75, so he was cruising much faster). I don't even know where the hell he came from, because at the last crossover I did not see any cops. He pulls in between us and out come the lights. Ironically, as the cop had come up the guy swerved from the middle lane to the left, back to the middle lane again.

Now by this time I had passed the exit I usually take to get home. So we headed up to the next exit, uturned it, and headed back east. Sure enough the cop thought the guy had been drinking enough to warrant a sobriety test, because he was out of his vehicle preparing to perform them as he passed on the other side. I just wish I could find out the ending and whether or not he was actually drunk, or perhaps a bad driver. I'm betting on the former.

Well the ending would have been DOA for somebody if he was drunk (or just tired) and you didn't help...

A drunk driver most certainly is an emergency, 911 was completely appropriate.

Excellent CPA. 911 is the right thing to do. For future refrence, (well, this is in FL) I think that LE officers can cross jurisdiction if they need to.

I once saw someone make a complete stop at every single light. Even when green. Then there was the moron coming off the interstate from the on ramp.

Good job.
