I specifically chose my gmail address way back in beta-land for the possibility of confusion and situations like this. It's one letter short of being "techsupport@gmail.com", hence you can see the potential of emails I'd get.
My favorite to date has been the craigslist job ad that put my very email in as their contact email. I had several resumes in my inbox that night, at which point I got to reply to those individuals regarding their potential employer's mistake. Good times.
Today, I come bringing the story of "Benjamin", an apparent student at Washington Community and Technical College (CTC.EDU).
For several months now, it seems Benjamin has been fond of screwing up. First was the email I received about him not having the prerequisites for a particular class, which would put his entire registration in jeopardy. I summarily ignored this email, figuring that it was simply a typo on someone's part with the email address.
A few weeks later, we learn that Benjamin enjoys skipping classes, as he had not shown up for nearly two weeks of classes. An instructor inquiring of his whereabouts came with email suggesting Benjamin at least call.
Today, an instructor by the name of Lori emails stating that I have not been in class for the last week and the final exam is due. And thus, I finally reply:
Cliffs:
- My Gmail addy is close to "techsupport@gmail.com"
- Receive several emails not intended for me
- ...
- Profit.

Lori;
I would like to point out that you likely have the wrong email address on file. I have received several emails regarding college courses for someone named Benjamin, whom I am not. As much as I wouldn't mind getting another degree, I've done my time in college and have the bills (unfortunately) to prove it.
It would be appreciated if you remove my email address from your mailing list and records, as I am not who you're looking for. I suggest trying the old standby of the telephone to contact the individual you seek. Obviously, this person is in desperate need of your educational services as an English instructor, as they can't seem to even spell their own email address correctly.
Good luck to you and your class.
Sincerely;
SunnyD
