85 Dodge Omni GLH.

Carroll Shelby inspired car. GLH stands for Goes Like Hell.

Goal for this car is for it to be a nice comfortable daily driver with a/c and somewhat good gas mileage. Looks wasn't an requirement, you either like it or don't, not my concern. It weights 2500lbs with a driver, ran a best of 14.5 at 97mph at only 12 psi with every conservative spark timing. The setup should be good for around 24 psi with pump gas with lower compression pistons. 2.5L with a T04E 50 trim a/r .50 T4 compressor housing and Cosworth a/r .48 turbine housing. Positive boost pressure comes in around 1700rpm, spool faster than my Turbo Volvo 850 with a small 15G!

Reason why the intercooler is in the front is due to I want to have a/c. There is just no space inside the engine compartment for an intercooler, with the a/c condenser. And yes, I got many questions regarding to what it is, and lots of stares.

Not going to paint the intercooler black, nor make grille for it. No point, paint on the rest of the car looks like crap anyways. Beside, the intercooler sticks too far out.

At 12psi, with very conservative timing.

1st time running with open downpipe. It's a loud quieter now with 2 mufflers and a cat.

Hahah awesome, I have a big soft spot for ugly go fast toys like that :) No offense obviously, it's always hilarious to see a pile of bolts move like stink. Last year or maybe the year before it I saw a bent looking 80s Mustang LX with at least 4 different colors on various body panels leave an STI behind like he was going backwards, complete with a one-wheel wheelie for about 20 feet. I'm always suspicious when I see a car on big fatty drag slicks, even if it looks like a pile.

Pretty cool. My first thought is that someone will steal that intercooler with it on display like that.

I want to do this in a Chevette. Wish I knew more about engines and turbos, etc

I had an 83 Chevette with a Buick 4.1 v6 (just larger displacement 3.8) and a 2004r trans. Hooker made swap headers for it and the engine mounts. It was only putting out 180-200hp but at 1850 lbs it was quick.

Nice. I still have my 89 caravan turbo though I am planning to replace it. Drive train is still in good shape but everything else is really going to crap.

There actually was a Shelby version of that car - the GLH-S (Goes Like Hell Somemore!). Just 500 were made - I wonder how many are left. I loved the tricked-out econoboxes that were common back then. Too bad that cateogory basically faded.

Find a fun donor car to swap it into?

I do check the problem is most of the dodges from that time frame are in just as bad of shape if you can find one at all :). They were disposable cars to most people. I've also had the thing for 11 years now and I'm just bored.

Not one of the rare 5 speeds. One of the guys I autox with is also a turbo dodge guy and runs a GLH, keeps up with my miata too, and he had a 5 speed van that he wanted to sell me. I would have bought it but it had 300k miles on it and was a stripper model, mine is loaded. Looked better than mine but all the suspension and other bits were just as crappy if not worse than mine.

Yours looks to be in really good shape. Did you have to do any rust repairs?

What do you call the Mazdaspeed 3, Focus ST, Impreza WRX and Lancer Evo? Those are all tricked out versions of basically... econoboxes.

sleeper ftw

toss some rust spots on there and start smoking ricers because they're not smart enough to notice the intercooler and big tires/etc...

Original CA car and now it's in AZ. Rust, what's that?

If you want a good roller, you'll have to go to CA or AZ.

You might have a ways to go. I knew someone in Minnesota with a Rolls v12 aircraft engine in their 1972 PINTO. :D

Yes, I guess there are more than I remembered. Too bad Toyota doesn't do a cool Corolla anymore like the old GTS. Some of those were pretty impressive.
