She's against the whole DeBeers monopoly / South African slave ring thing.

What would be a good alternative engagement ring to get her?

If you know you're serious about her, and you can afford to think about diamonds, how about a down payment on a nice house or condo? It's impressive, and it's far more useful than a pretty rock. :)

If you know you're serious about her, and you can afford to think about diamonds, how about a down payment on a nice house or condo? It's impressive, and it's far more useful than a pretty rock. :)

It's a bit a hard putting a house or condo on the ring finger.

Ask her what kind of stones she likes and then pick the hardest one (less damage from everyday wear).
