I mistakenly left a check in my pants pocket. Girlfriend did the laundry this morning. Check is pretty much in pieces. Is it my fault for not emptying my pockets? Or her fault for not checking the pockets before putting them in the washer?

***Edited****

My pants were on the ground in the bedroom. It was the pants I wore last night. I came home late, took off my clothes, and hopped into bed. I left early this morning to do a photoshoot. I didnt think she'd do laundry this morning.
It's her fault for doing your laundry in the first place. ;)

fixed :)

yeah, it's your fault if you want to put blame. However; this happens no matter how careful anyone is.

If you are looking for an excuse to breakup with her, just do so; unless you need a mom around.

It's no ones fault. Your pockets should generally be always emptied right at the start whenever you come home and are ready to relax. No one will feel a piece of paper inside your pocket.

well you should know not to leave your pants laying around that's mainly why it was your fault

if you had a check in there you'd think you should probably take that out instead of cough forgetting it was in the pants you probably threw on the ground

It's not really her fault for not checking the pockets but she should probably do it :p

Oh, so it was not in the laundry area, I'll change my vote to 50/50, but you shouldn't be mad at her, she was only doing you a favor, it was unfortunate what happened, but by now means is it entirely her fault

Yours. Your check. Your pants. Your responsibility. She did you a favor by doing your laundry -- it isn't her fault you didn't empty your pockets.

I voted before I read the post. But if she picked them up off the ground I could go as far as to say it's her fault because you hadn't proposed in anyway that they were to be washed. However, she should simply not be washing your clothes if you don't put them by the washer; it's the least you can do. Bottom line, it was a mistake, get over it and ask for a new check.

Nobody touches my clothes. I keep things where I need them, and most of the time things like my wallet and cell phone are in my pockets.

Your GF is at fault, however, relationships are not about being right and wrong. Just use this as an opportunity to either ask her to check the pockets before she washes your clothes or let her know that you don't want her washing your clothes.

thanks for all the replies guys. At no point did i place blame on the girl. How could I? Like everyone else said, I can't complain for someone doing a good deed. It's interesting to hear what y'all have to say though. At least most of you are smart enough to know that it's always the guy's fault.

cheers!

I must be an oddball. I MUST check every pocket of stuff I throw in the washer!

How many times have you forgotten a wallet or other item you would rather not have washed in unchecked laundry? I know washing my wallet once was enough for me.

I do, because I've ruined enough of my favorite clothes (from a forgotten Chap-Stick or ball-point pen) in the past to forget.

It's hers, but don't try telling her that. If you had put them in the laundry hamper without checking THEN it would be your fault. But lying on the floor in the middle of the room, my assumption (probably because I do it too) would be that you simply dropped trou and jumped in bed. When I'm tired, I don't think about stuff like that. She should have checked.

It's both your faults but mostly your fault. It's your fault for leaving something like that in your pants. She's just the second line of defense.

thats a bit more than ive had go through the wash.... but i still consider it my fault...

well lemme rephrase. it isnt my fault for being tired and just wanting to go to bed, it is just careless.

but it also isnt her fault because shes washed my stuff because it wasnt something she is supposed to do, or asked to do... its just something thats more efficent to put out the little bit of effort for her to grab some stuff to make a full load...

maybe i could be a total jerk (add a few more words) and write out laundry washing guidelines for a future GF, but i dont think i would get anything for a long time.. :frown:

bottom line for me, it isnt anybodys fault, unless you planned to wear the same pants the next day or day after, but if i had to choose it would be your fault. because it definitely isnt hers. (unless you wrote those rules down.) my $0.02

You're damn lucky she wants to make you happy by doing things for you - like the laundry.

It's her fault for not checking. However, you're gonna rely on a female to remember to check something like that???
