My GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3 setting multiplier to 35...

Hey Guys,

I used to be a member here long ago, but I guess my account disappeared. Anyway, I have a quick question. I just put together a new machine and it seems to be working well (even with the quirky Agility 3 SSD) but I have a question or two. Right now, it is at stock speeds as I do not need more. However, whenever I boot up, the processor is listed fine but the stock 34x multiplier is set to 35x automatically. I don't know why it is doing that. Is this normal for people with this board? If I manually set it to 34x, it does the same thing, but if I set it to 33x, it will go down to 3.33 ghz.

Also, when I Prime95 tested my CPU for 30 minutes or so, temps got as high as 76 degrees. Is this normal as well? Right now they are at 33° or so, but my multiplier is down to 16x right now.

Thanks for the help!

If your cpu is pushing that high a temp under load at default clock speeds, more than likely your HSF is not making proper contact or not working correctly. Recheck that the HSF is properly installed and that you applied the thermal paste correctly.

I have that board and it automatically sets my mult to 37 which is the max turbo freq.

I never bother to figure out why as I pretty much just oc'd the max turbo for 4 cores to 4ghz and called it a day. There's nothing wrong with that though. Just fix your proc temps and forget about the multiplier.
