Okay got my system up and running and did some preliminary overclocking... Out of the box here are my results...

http://img238.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitledck1.jpg]

FSB is at 430... not even breaking a sweat... Also North and south bridge at only +.1v at this setting...

e6300 1.83 @3.0Ghz also not even breaking a sweat... I havent raised voltage on cpu yet but i think motherboard does automatically... i i will verify

This is with 2gb of memory..

Stable as can be. I just ran a 32m superpi as you can see!!!

Will be back need to tinker under the hood some more...

:thumbsup::D

this is screenshot of highest stable clock of the 2gb kit from patriot that i have been able to attain w/ 2.1 volt. It goes up to 1055mhz if i apply more voltage but i dont feel comfortable running it very long at that kind of a voltage. the timings are still very tight. I copied the timings from this review... This is kick$%# memory!!!!

The memory review i used for my memory timings (this is the same memory i am using by the way)

I was just about to post this very question and happened to stumble across this thread. Thanks for the post!

Now that you've been using it for a couple of days, how do you like the motherboard? Any complaints?

Which RAM are you using with it?

does the 945p OC just as good as the 965p? I am getting a E6400 and hoping to get near 3.0ghz which would be more than enough for me.

If the 945p-S3 could get me to 3.0ghz and be stable thats all I would need.

Also is there a major difference in the boards or is it only the chipset that is different? I noticed the 965p has more Sata connectors

Side question: how can you tell what vRAM is set to with this board? I hate that it only allows you to increase the voltage by +0.1 increments, rather than letting you select an absolute value (e.g., 1.9v). Is it safe to assume that 1.8v is default?

the 945p chipset does not support ddr2 800.

The Gigabyte 945P-S3 also uses the ICH7 soutbridge instead of the newer ICH8.

Nice O/C! I have the same board with an E6600 in it. What BIOS are you using? Only one I can find is F3C I believe, and mine was shipped with F2.

EDIT* Nevermind, I see it in your CPUZ screen.

Quick question: what is this board missing (compared to the DS3) to explain the $20 difference in pricing?

Edit: Okay, I got the answer in another thread.

It is perhaps the first time in the history of motherboards that a company releases two products that are nearly identical in specs and differ only in the *quality* of components ? the DS model features solid capacitors, and costs a good $23 more than the regular S model.

It also appears they are supporting the DS3 more than the S3 with BIOS updates.

Quite True, I called because I am having some issues with my mouse going out and the higest is F3 where the DS3 just got the F5.

Other than that I am pretty happy, I am still learning a lot about this stuff due to it being a new build system below

One question, in this F3 bios how do I even my ram to my cpu, I am running stock 667 DDRII ram. I dont quite understand all of the menu options in the MIB tweaking part. I feel that I may have a problem with my ram being out of sync with the CPU, getting long Bios boots and some problems loading windows after the windows boot logo.

dakota, i think you want to run your RAM synchronously with your FSB?
Set the FSB:DRAM divider to 1:1 (DDR2-533). That way, when your FSB is set to 266MHz, your RAM will also be at 266MHz (533MHz effective). You can overclock the FSB up to 333MHz and your RAM will still be in spec (667MHz effective).
Also, make sure your RAM timings aren't very aggressive - set them manually as per the specs listed on your RAM.

Sorry, I can't be more precise as I don't know what the BIOS looks like exactly.

No they are supporting them both. In fact they use the same Bios. The DS3 came out first so they have the number of the Bios 1 higher for the DS3 then S3. Look at both and you can see the name and number are the only Diff.
So a F5 on a DS3 is a F4 on a S3

Here is my little review of my S3

Hey guys sorry havent responded... Been running about...

First off this the S3 is same as DS3. I wouldnt be surprised if the bios were interchangeable on both boards... of course i wouldnt do that myself. As far as the S3 bios being updated the DS3 boards seems to be the guinea pig and when they fix a bunch of things with that board they then roll all the bios fixes up in one update for the S3. If you look at the F3 version for the S3 it has everything the up to the F4 bios for the DS3 board. And it looks like they just released a NEW bios... the F4 for the S3 and F5 for the DS3... they are the same as u can see... I will be back let me update mine!!!!

;)
