Hi purchased a Gigabyte 6800Gt about 3 weeks ago it comes in a massive box and comes with Doom 3 GV-N68T256DH and it was running fine apart from a few system crashes which i thought where heat related.Vtuner told me it wasn't running not as hot as some posts ive seen, usually idle around 52 and when playing games the highest i saw it was 69.I removed sides of case, improved cooling and no more crashes.
Card was running stock, never overclocked and sudddenly i went to turn pc on and card goes to start and doesnt continue, light on fan came on for a moment then off and fan not spinning and no visual.Took it out reseeted card, checked molex cable and still no go.Tryed it in my other system ,same thing, goes to boot then no more.Checked AGP slot on Motherboard with another card, motherboard is fine with the other card.I have returned card to place of purchase and they basically cant tell me when i will get this one fixed or replaced. Is this common practise on returning card to place of purchase when i have been a valid customer and spent plenty there in the past,i have never returned anything to this shop and am quite pissed off over the whole ordeal.PLease tell me am i better to send card back to Gigabyte directly or wait for ever for a replacement and from what ive read on other posts here, the Gigabyte doesn't sound very reliable.

Thanks man,but do stores take retuens on cards, honouring the warrenty? And by the look of some other posts in this forum and other forums,Gigabyte might be worth steering clear of.(6800 anyway)
I have had 2 other Gt6800 both from Leadtek, 1 gt and i 128meg non Gt,1 is mine and the other in a system i built for a friend, both running perfectly, funning cooler and with no random crashes.

A retail store like BestBuy or Compusa will if it's still withinh the 30 day period..(I think Compusa is 14 days)...

I can't really comment on Gigabyte, never owned one...but I do own a EVGA 6800 Ultra..Never had any problems with it from day one :)...The card idles at 52 and never higher the 59 in games..

I'm getting ready to RMA mine too. I was crashing after 15 or 20 minutes of FarCry and finally went and checked the temp...90C.
Doom3 played fine for extensive periods being OpenGL but the Direct3D games like FarCry crash to desktop after a short period.. There were a few reboots too.

I suspect you got it online and should be able to RMA it back to the seller.
This will be my first RMA with ZZF so it'll be interesting.

RMA to manufacturer.. it's more pain for you , but you'll get the card much quicker.

I had overheating problems with my Gigabyte 6800 GT too. Mine consistently idled at 71C. Running Unreal Tournament 2004 it would get up into the 80's. Doom3 put it's temp up to 99C! That was enough for me. I e-mailed Gigabyte support and they recommended that I RMA it to them so they could test it. They told me that the card should run 45-55C idle, 60-80C. Oh, and their estimated turn-around time for the RMA would be up to 30 days.

I decided it would be best to rid myself of that little space heater. I RMA'd it back to Zipzoomfly.com for a refund last week. Still waiting for closure on the RMA. I went to BestBuy and found a BFG6800GT with the old nVidia reference design cooler. This card runs at 56C idle and gets up into the upper 60's under load.

By the way, the fan on the Gigabyte card was much louder than the one on this BFG. Those looking for a quiet video card should steer clear of this one.
