Wow, way to make a big deal out of nothing. It's an internet message board, get over it.

The only remote sympathy i offer is the PM limit can be quite annoying when you are trading. Guess you'll just have to go through the pain of learning to use email for that purpose.

Where's that cricket playing the violin emoticon.
The search feature is probably the best aspect of being a subscriber on top of the increased PM limit. However, I did not subscribe for either of those reasons. Instead I subscribed to support the forums and would gladly do it again.

Same here. I'd pay double to keep my account.

I offered to pay $100 to continue my account until the same day as the longest current subscriber.

No dice.

Agreed.

I have been on AT for about 2 hours so far today (mostly from work), the speed is fine, the ads are annoying but acceptable.

Search sucks and I have 700+ PM's clogging my inbox, must export when I get home.

All they have to do is increase our PM limit to something more reasonable (500?) and allow full text searching for non-subscribers.

I would keep paying as a subscriber just for them to remove the f'ing advertisement shrinking my screen down about 15% :|

I don't mind the top ad banner that's fine with me but PLEASE get rid of the ads on the left!

Welcome to my world. At least the AMD flash ad is now gone.

Wait, if these ads are truly paying for resources, then I hope AT can keep the non-intrusive ad revenue flowing.
🙁

I'm using XP (government agency already using XP? **GASP** hehe)
But I found the hosts file. No dice. Any ideas?

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
168.143.107.163 forums.anandtech.com

Any ideas?

get this, and then this. Now that posting this won't result in fewer subscribers, since you can't subscribe anyway, I don't feel bad providing it 😉.

I've gotten used to not having a sub since mine ran out and I couldn't re-up. The absolute WORST part is the suckass search function. The sub one was SO much better.

Plus, I have to delete all the softcore porn PMs RossMan keeps sending me. 🙁

Shouldn't that be "subscriber.anandtech.com" instead of "forums.anandtech.com"? What you're trying to do is prevent it from going to DNS to look up the name, and you're wanting to "trick" it into using the old subscriber subdomain name for the IP of the forums subdomain.

I can already access subscriber.anandtech.com. I am talking about when my subscription runs out in 93 days, I will not be able to access forums.anandtech.com. The IP address, entered into my web browser, takes me to forums.anandtech.com, which is great. But I need to trick my browser into going to that IP address, instead of resolving forums.anandtech.com when I click a link.
