my ghetto case situation

i have a hard drive that gets really hot, so i finally gathered 2 screws and placed them in strategic positions in the hard drive spinny nail bays and stacked some dominoes up, then put a fan on top of the dominoes so that it would cool the hard drive and still get air flow. this has been working great, so thank me when you try it.

i have an actual question, though: my ram gets really hot, and i'm suspecting that it's the reason my computer randomly reboots when i end a process or program (though i'm probably wrong), so i pulled a big fan out of another computer and it's just sitting on top of my video card, pointed at my ram. will it destroy anything? it looks like this:

If either of them falls over things could get messy, but if you secured them it should be all right. Why not just pull off your side panel and slide up a house/floor fan or something? It couldn't increase the ghetto factor, anyway.

Those fans will eventually vibrate around and maybe fall inside the case. Could fall and break a capacitor off or something. You never know. Maybe the fan fins will cut something.

You could try using things like the PCI slot covers from a case, drill holes, then mount the fans on one or two of those so that they are suspended and more stable.

there are a bunch of wires weighing one of the fans down, i think that should do it.

i run open case, but my cpu and ram still get very hot. i'd put a box fan up to the case but there isn't much room on my desk.

i have plenty of spots for fans, but i like having them blazing straight at the hot little pieces of hardware. i'm not so worried about them falling, if they fall it's my fault. i just don't want to be on the 6 o'clock news because my computer started the nerdiest fire in the history of the city i live in.

What hardware you running. A neat case with 5 case fans should be enough to keep things in order. I would suggest what the other guy said pull up a normal fan, or put it up against a window or something. Could use the all mighty duct tape if your worried your house of cards is gonna fall apart.

Does it show this ugly message saying I edited my message. I really should start rereading my posts that ugly bold lettering gets to me.

i'm running some old ass hardware. ati radeon 7000 or something. it's not like i can't drive across the street to wal-mart and buy six of them, if i pawn my studded gold teeth that is.
