Oh that?s a good one, referring to his Miata as a sports car!

To the OP, thanks for making me laugh, I needed it!

Seth

Ha ha. Someone doesn't know what a sports car is :)

:p
These are sports cars

This is sporty, not a sports car.

seth

There is a slight price difference between the Miata and your cars listed :p.

Funny thing is, the only difference between all of those "sports cars" you mentioned and the Miata is the fact they have huge gobs of power.

All have a 4 wheel independent suspension, all are 2 seaters, all have 4 wheel disc brakes, all are RWD, and all are generally considered light weight. The NSX is a MR layout, but thats the only real "different" feature between any of the cars listed.

Just because the car doesn't push out 300+HP doesn't mean its not a sports car. :p If you look at classic sports cars (espically the british roadsters), you'll understand exactly what the Mazda engineers were trying to accomplish. A great handling, lightweight, RWD roadster with no reliablity issues. That is exactly what they made. If you wanted a Mazda Super Car, and you had the money, you would have bought one of these..

I just think its funny how you say a car that was based off the Lotus Elan isn't considered a sports car.

All I'm saying is just because some 400-pound lard can throw a baseball and run to first base, doesn?t make him an athlete. And just because the miata is a 2 seater and has 4 wheel independent suspension doesn?t make it a sports car.

seth

...low, small, rwd, lightweight, driver feel, nimble..

I'm still not convinced you know what a sports car is ;)

Me too.

A Miata is a sportscar. :p

The station wagon originally came about as a means for travelers on trains to get to final destinations untouched by tracks. It once truly was a wagon that took people to and from the station :)

A train stops at train station, a bus stops at a bus station. On my desk there is a workstation...

Yeah...trains should really be called "station trains"

Hahaha, what station wagon? You just need some boost. May I suggest a Jackson Racing supercharger as an appetizer? (I say appetizer because once you feel power you will want more. :D:()

Anyway, still sucks to get beat by a wagon, but, it's not like the old days when wagons where notoriously slow.

what about 93 and 94 Rx-7 they pwm and they are made by mazda

Check his sig! ;)

Oh my dear holy god... I'M A "NOOBTARD!!!!!"

LOL...Way to use my word!

Acaeton...is that the '06 RX-7? I'm sorry, but if you don't think that car is hawt (and going to liberally whip domestic sports-car ass) you're insane.

And someone at my work drives an NSX. It's nothing special. Waste of money, IMHO.

If your going to buy a brand new car with only 142 HP get used to it.

First of all, since when is a Miata a sports car?!

Seems to me you bought a car that looked cool to impress people with without researching the specs.

IMO anything that is going to be called a 'sports car' for starters has to have at LEAST 300 hp and 300 ft/lb

These little plastic teeny bopper cars they come out with today suck. They look like a neon plastic blow fish with all this excessive eye assualting plastic sticking off them at 30 different angles.

At least Toyota is honest (re: Celica): It only LOOKS fast.

The Miata fits the definition of a sports car perfectly. I did not buy it to impress anyone. Show me another new rwd coupe for $17k.

Was it a Taurus Wagon?

Was a 220HP Taurus SHO engine planted inside it?

It's the ultimate sleeper.

$17k new or used? The current models are $22k new.

And car in the $20k range now days will have a 200+ HP V6.

I didn't mean to come off so harsh, but I've been in that situation. I was in love with the Boxster S for a long time (similar to the 360 spider that I don't have the money for at the moment)

I just could not get over the weak 260 HP. 320 HP 3.6L would have been fine. To make it worse, there is hardly a aftermarket for newer porsches that doesnt cost $20,000 to turbo charge and then your still left with less than 400 HP on the Boxster.

I was not going to spend that much money on a Porsche to get smoked by a Nissans and cheap V6 mustangs that also have 260 HP and far bigger after market.

I ended up with a '03 Cobra with 390 HP factory and now with 600+ at the wheels.

I still like the Boxster, but I know if I had gotten it, I would have been pissed the first time a mustang or something wasted me. I don't have that problem with the Cobra.

People will say "oh but handling" and other nonsense. BS. There sure as hell aren't any "twisties" when someone in a "better handling" car pulls up in the lane next to you and starts revving... "twisties" only come into play after they've lost and they make excuses.

For example someone someone in a (making up numbers) 200 HP BMW will waste someone in a 100 HP 4 banger, but when a Cobra or Vette wastes the BMW they start talking about twisties... they are full of it.

The Z isn't a sports car? RX-7 wasn't a sports car? I don't think the Supra ever broke 300hp either..
