Well unfortunately her family didn't have theft coverage. It was covered only with liability so they're going to have to pay to fix it.

We just came from the impound and took a look at the car. At least the car is running ok. The hood, front and rear bumpers, side panels, spoiler, wheels, and entire interior (seats, stereo, speakers, even the instrumental panel) were all taken. No meaningless vandalism was commited as far as I could see. So far its cost $300 just for the towing services.

Of course the police have no leads. I'm not too surprised though. Car theft is just too common in Sacramento.

BTW, everything was completely stock on the car.

Damn bro that completely sucks :| :| :| Just curious though - what trim level is the Integra? I'm guessing it's a LS or maybe a GS.

Yeah, you're right. It was a GS 2 door.

Ahh ok. I was curious as to why they didn't steal the engine if it was a GS-R. But that really really sucks dood. She should probably sell the remaining parts of the car and just get a new one, it probably isn't worth it to put it back together.

you're probably better off just parting that car out instead of trying to buy parts for it to make it whole again, unless you get them from the black market i guess. then you can buy the original parts back...

Chautauqua. Its right next to Casitas. The police told me that Sacramento car thieves love to go "shopping" in Davis because its so peaceful and quiet at night and usually everyone is sleeping.

Call me stupid, but what's the value of the stripped parts from that car? I mean, if it's stock, what good is the stereo, wheels, etc, when any other Integra owner already has those?

Let's see . . .

He never specified if stereo was stock or aftermarket. Stock isn't worth much, maybe $30.

Stock wheels and rims are maybe $400.

Chairs are $300 each? Just a guess.

Door panels probably $100 each. Center console maybe $50.

Windows are expensive (look up a windshield). They probably scored at least $1000 off the glass.

Airbags can be melted down for gold, can get maybe $200 out of it.

Prices go up depending on trim level. If it's leather then door panels and chairs double in price. And if it's aftermarket stereo and rims, well you can figure that out.

Car wouldn't get stolen if it wasn't worth the time to steal, probably $2000 in black market profit and around $5000 for insurance to replace (again those go up depending on trim level and if anything was aftermarket).

But then who's paying for all of this? The market for Integra chairs can't be all that big; it's not like people are constantly replacing their chairs. Are Integras even the target market for these parts, or is the idea to replace parts in cheap cars with this stuff?

<-- Finds this kind of theft very illogical

FVCKEN thieves! I had my hubcaps stolen (nothing compared to this, I know)

I live right over on Sun Tree (teh ghetto of Davis) and am moving to Cranbrook. I never knew car thieves like going to Davis I figure theres always drunk guys going around but since it is summer, I can understand that. Any more updates with insurance hopefully?

I can empathize with what your girlfriend has gone through. My car (1987 Toyota Cressida) just got stolen tonight.

I guess there was a bit more I could have done to deter the thief who got it such as putting one of those club devices on. Unfortunately, it is all in hindsight now. I really needed it since I live in the LA area where a car is almost a necessity as many know. Looks like I'll need to look for work even faster.

Muwahahha guess who you're gonna have as a neighbor!

Cranbrook is doing better now. There were a couple cars broken into some months back so the police stepped up patrols on J and in the court.

it reminds me of the bicycle stealing gangs in Santa Barbara. they would hit Santa Barbara and steal a sh!t load of bikes, then sell them in Los Angeles and then do the vice versa, steal in LA then ship em to SB, until they got caught.

and this is why i was iffy on picking up a camry.... i worry my 95 camry will get stolen on campus... i had an mx6 which got busted into.. but thank god the idiot did it in broad daylight and someone heard the glass shatter... the guy who heard it hovered around to see what the theif was up to... deterring him from any further action.
