Hi,
I have two public IP's. One is for my network, and the other is for my IP phone. I have DSL. My gateway is Windows 2000 Server. It has a public interface (Gateway) and a private interface (LAN)
Here is the setup
DSL Modem

Switch --> IP Phone

This setup worked fine for a while. Then all of a sudden, the internet connection started dying. Before any of this happened, I had figured out that if I yank my cable for the gateway from the gateway, the gateway would start trying to route internet over the private interface. If I hooked the line back up to the gateway port, the gateway machine would still try routing over the private interface, even though the gateway was now active. ???? I would have to disable the private interface (while the gateway interface was active), which would set the gateway trying to route internet over the gateway interface, then reactivate the private interface. After doing so, everything would work fine until I disabled or removed the cable from the gateway interface.
Anyways, ever since my internet connection starting dying, i would go deactivate the private interface and then reactivate it right away. This would bring the internet back up. Now it only stays up for about 20 minutes, before I have to do it again.
Any ideas? Could the front switch be going bad? I've tried multiple cat5 cables. problem always persists.
