Ok before any flamage about the mouse and keyboard...I decided that I'm gonna gimp out on these. Why? Personally I can't feel the difference between an 800dpi mouse and a 400 dpi mouse (I'm lovin my current HP cheapy free one), so I'll just stick with a cheap, 800dpi optical wired mouse. The keyboard, who cares? As soon as I break these things I'll get new ones, after all, they're just a keyboard and mouse.

About the case...I had extra money in my budget to splurge out on something, so I chose this case. If I'm going to be OCing my system I want good cooling and airflow, and this pretty much beats anything out there. It looks nice, designed well (PSU hidden, wires hidden, hard drives hidden), and it's totally out of whack (motherboard attached onto left side of case??). My kinda of case :) and there's no talking me out of this one.

So with that over, questions, comments, better deals, let em fly.

EDIT: Changed mouse to Razer and changed speakers to Logitech 5.1s

I'd wait for more feedback on MSI, -haven't had good luck with their motherboards. I wouldn't touch the Kingston ram. I'd prefer onboard Soundstorm to an Audigy, and there's gotta be a better speaker deal.

everyone here would most likely recommnd the msi board since there isnt truly a better nforce 3 ultra board for socket 939. also, soundstorm doesnt exist anymore, so what you're preferring is dead.

as for the ram, i highly recommend the oc el revision 2, since your a planning to oc mrvile. they are one of the best ocing memories.

a 530watt psu might be a little too much for what you've got. drop it down to a better quality 500 if you can find something. Plus, i think you should stick with a 5.1 sound system for the same price too. 7.1 isn't really that much better, and the sound quality that comes with speakers/price probably will drop.

MX510 all the way.
If I were you, I would go with a SLK948U with AS5 and a Panaflo fan. It's not only a bit smaller, but it actually works a little bit better than the Zalman, too.
Go for DDR500 (another 30 bucks) and a 90nm (Winchester) processor. A Winchester 3000 can OC to 2.4 on air with the heatsink mentioned above, and without even pushing your memory past stock speeds. Wait until Nforce4 is out, too-the PCI-E boards have faster HDD interfaces and dual gigabit ethernet amongst the other nifty features, and you are'nt likely to pay more than 30$ more for a high-quality NF4 board.

I was actually looking into the Razer Diamondback mouse (1600dpi) for about 60 bucks.

Cheesehead, I plan to start ordering after Thanksgiving, so I don't know if I can wait for NF4. Also, I don't know if the NF4 will have any AGP slots, so I'll be paying another 100 bucks for a PCIe video card.

I've changed my RAM to OCZ DDR500 RAM in case you didn't read my reply to Mikey, and the 3500+ I'm getting is Winchester 90nm.

What are some good heatsinks out there? I looked at a bunch of Thermalrights, including the SLKs, the XP-90 and the monstrous XP-120. I also looked at the Scythe fanless heatsink, the Coolermaster jet-turbine like thing, the Coolermaster KHC-V81-U1 (but a lot of people say this is a bit too heavy) among others. Which is the best? I'd probably get the XP-120 but some guy who had the V2000B case said the heatsink didn't fit completely (because of the location of the PSU), and I figure our cases would be similar. But after looking at a few pics of the V1000B though, the motherboard tray looks like it dips down a bit, and the V2000B has a really high PSU compartment. Just a thought.

As of now the XP-90 is in the lead. I think the XP-120 is a bit too big, and I'll probably have to sacrifice a DIMM slot for one of these, which I am NOT planning on doing. I've looked up some tests for the XP-90 and the temps turned out quite pleasing. Don't know how heavy the thing is though, every site has a different weight so I'm kinda confused.

Bump for the night.

SLK948u is awesome. It's about the same size as the XP-90, and cools about as well as a XP-120. It's heaver than the XP-90, though, which only weigs about 1.5lbs or so.
The new PCIe graphics cards are actually about the same price, last time I checked. Also, if you want to upgrade, you're stuck getting PCIe. The good news is, the first NF4 boards should be out by december 10th anyway, so if you wait another week you're in for a cournicopia of gaming goodness.
Regardless of the high DPI, the MX510 is a better gaming mouse than the Razer, and cheaper, too. Also, logitech mice can last for YEARS. I have a 30$ (when purchased) Logitech Optical Mouse that has been in use for four years, and it's still running strong.
Lastly, you might want to consider the high weight of the V100b-it's not an idea lanparty case. I would look at a LANparty oriented case (Lanboy?) if you want something that wo'nt cause back injuries when you try to lift it.

Who said I was going to be LAN partying? Anyway, I changed my mouse to the MX510 because the Razer isn't worth it IMO.

PCI-E: The cheapest PCI-e X800XT is 518 bucks, which is the GeCube one, but after factoring the extra cost of the motherboard, it will turn out to be a hundred extra bucks.

the best MSI S939 motherboard is the K8N-NEO2. It is the Nf3 250 Ultra. The one you are quoitng is an inferior K8T, based on the Via K8T800Pro. It is by no means bad, but for your system, you might as well spend the extra 20 bucks. Nice config. by the way, good luck with your build.

I wouldn't waste money on that fancy RAM. THe differences will be marginal at best, just get 2x512mb sticks of COrsair Value Select PC3200 and it will run fine and OC decently.

As for your processor, i would not waste money on the 3500+ just get the 3200+ and OC it. Video card wise doesn't really matter they are both neck and neck.

HDD get the seagate. WD still hasn't caught on to Fluid Bearings and therefore is very noisy.

Or you could just wait for Nforce 4 :p

Overall nice system.

Gamingphreek, thanks for informing me about the hard drives. I'll be sure to switch to Seagate, but will I need 200gb for gaming and music? I bet 120 will do, but I might go 160 to be safe.

About the processor, yes I thought long about switching to 3200+, and I probably will, it will save me 100 bucks and the difference between the two isn't even in clock speed (meaning unnoticeable). But for RAM, I think I'll stick with DDR500. The posted link is one of the best deals on RAM like that I've ever seen, not to mention that I am a beginner OCer and I don't want to be working with voltages too much (I'd hate to fry something on my first OC). Thanks for the suggestion though.

Nice system and good luck with the build. I'm currently in the same position with just a few changes from your system.

Hope you dont mind a "little hijacking here", hopefully you have the same questions. Like you I have been planning on the 3500+, but it seems alot of people here strongly recommend saving the ~$100 and going with the 3200+. So now I am confused also.

Is there anyone here that does recommend the 3500+ over the 3200+ and why?

I've read here that there wont be much performance difference, video wise, but I'm building the system more for other uses than gaming.

Along those lines, I have been debating on waiting for the new Nforce 4/SLI boards but since I dont plan on having two video cards, are there other good reasons to wait for this new board.
Real interested since this is the last undecided on my system.

Again, sorry for jumping your thread.

If you don't want SLI, the only real reason to wait for NForce4 is for the PCI-e slot. So if you're worried about being able to upgrade your video card later, then yes you should wait. As for the 3500+, if you want it, go for it. The 3200+ is just at a better price point. What are the other uses?
