My fsp700 took a crap

It has failed after a little more than 3 years.

My eVGA 7950 took a crap a while ago on me so that will be upgraded to either an 8800 or 9800 and since I have 2 they are replacing both.

So, I am looking for a PSU that will run fine for this. My main thing is that I plan on upgrading my computer's board, cpu, RAM and video card (from 2 cards to a big one) in a year so I am looking for a power supply that will work for me now and in the future.

$250.00 or less is what I am looking to spend. I was thinking an 850W should be fine but looking at some of the high end cards they require a crapload of power (saw some 600W+). Best Buy has a bfg 1000 W power supply for $199.99

My computer is housed in a stacker 830:
3 HDD, maybe put in a 4th
7 large fans, no small ones
Sound card
2 GB RAM
3 USB devices
6 drive bays filled:
Floppy
DVD ROM
DVD Recorder
Fan Controller (love it!)
Temp readout controller
SB Controller

I can't think of anything else that may be in it at this time.

I don't believe there's a single video card on the market that can pull 600W, or 50A, from the power supply.

You're probably confusing the total system draw seen in gpu reviews for the video card only.

I'd look at something in the 750W range again, and that'd probably be overkill.

A good choice is the Antec True Power New 750...was on sale at Newegg for under $100.

The Corsair HX line is great.....the 750HX is an outstanding power supply and well under $200.

Thanks. I probably read through what I was looking at quickly.

The 750 is $148 @zipzoomfly and the 850 is $178.

Even after upgrading I shouldn't need more than 750?

I'd get an Antec TP-750. Damn near as good as the Corsair but a lot cheaper $111 at ewiz. And yeah even if you were to get two 9800GTX+ as replacements you'd still have tons of headroom for further upgrades

Correct. 6-pin PCIe is limited to 75W. 8-pin PCIe is limited to 150W. PCIe slot is limited to 75W. Total = 300W, or 25A. 600W+ was talking about total system load/requirement, not just that of a graphics card.

Thanks for the replies. I did more research other than just skimming through things quickly (after misquoting) and have come to choose between:

Corsair 750 Hx

Antec TP 750 Blue

Seasonic M12D 750

They all fall into my price range, so now I am just reading reviews on the internet.

Edit:

I checked out the dimension and the depth for my stacker is 180 but with the top fan in it is about a 175 depth thus I can't use the Hx. The Tx series has gotten great reviews so I was looking at them and came across this:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...p?ProductCode=10009821

I don't think I need the 850 Tx but it comes with a $30 MIR which makes it $109

Also, the 750 Tx is $109 with a $10 MIR right now.

Wow, as I was editing this, zzf dropped their price to $129 which makes this come to $99 after MIR.

If you're worried about length, I don't know if a TX corsair is really a good idea. If it's shorter than the HX line (I dont know) it still has a TON of hardwired cables you won't need and have to hide, and they can take up a lot of space

The length is 6.3" for the measurement I came across for the Tx series which is about a 160 I believe.

I was thinking for $99 after MIR I could use zip ties and cram wires somewhere out of the way. But a modular design would be nice.......

So I may sit on this a day or two. Thanks.

Well you can get the Truepower New 750 for ~$100-110, and while its a bit less power its shorter, modular, and a slightly more efficient/stable design

I ordered the 750 Blue from zzf as they were out of the regular with free shipping and no tax.

Thanks for the help.
