I sent him this e-mail in regards to what he should get for his new PC. He is getting a monitor locally due in part to the high cost of shipping monitors. I may also suggest that he get a case locally.

Conclusion: It's likely that the 6600GT (AGP) will be out before you
buy your PC. If so, this will shed about $80 off the price, putting it
around your price range. I would replace RAM before anything if the
video card isn't out by them because RAM is easy to upgrade. If you
need to replace more, I would get the alternative video card I
suggested next. Finally, I would replace the CPU/mobo combo last due
to the fact that they are extremely overclockable and cool running
components.

----------------------------------------

He's on a budget, preferrably the end price will be below $1,000. He's going for a bang for the buck on performance, and don't care about much else. I came here to get a second opinion. Anything you would change?

If he's not going for the Chaintech, then he should get a DFI lanparty.
The cheap memory is sufficient, low timings are overkill due to the onboard memory controller of the A64. Though if he is overclocking, OCZ Plt. rec.2 512mb would be the way to go for a similar price.
There is a $200 pny 6800NU in the Hot Deals forum if I'm not mistaken.

I would change your powersupply by the way I dont think 350 watts is sufficent, especially if you plan to use more than 1 hard drive and the 6800 also takes up a lot of power. get atleast a 400 and up. But everything else looks good.
