I did speed tests after installing my friends cavalier dsl -- it was about 1.5/600. It's not supposed to be that fast, is it?

I get 1.5 MBit download consistantly with Verizon DSL. Upload is only 128KBit though.

I have the crappiest lines in nyc then. Where are you located? I'm lucky if I get close to half that on the dl(60-65kbps); upload never goes past 9 or 10kbps.

I'm in an borough of Pittsburgh, PA in a 100 year old crap-tastic building that's only good for housing college kids who don't care about the quality of the apartments.

I tend to get around 160 kilobytes per second download from most servers. Fast ones have seen as much as 198 kilobytes per second sustained. Upload, of course, is only around 16 kilobytes per second.

EDIT: This was the cheapest DSL offered in my area.

My backwards ass DSL (QWest) is quite weird. I'm supposed to be 1500down/128 up. I'm more like 1000 down and 600 up!

Any ideas on what I can do; should contact? CS just gives me the usual run arounds & excuses(CO not close enough, etc.). I am within 7 blocks of the CO, yet I can't even get the basic speeds before the 1.5 upgrade that supposedly went out.

I wouldnt complain about that upload speed. I get 6000/600, but I pay more too, rare to see 1.5/600.
