so i already reformatted for him....and it keeps restarting on its own everytime he plays wow.....

he runs a p4 on a via chipset, with a 400 watt enermax. 9800 on dual monitors, 1 gig of generic ram, a 80 gig maxtor harddrive, 2 optical drives, audigy.

it has never happened before until recently, can the power supply be dying?

The power supply can be dying, the mobo might be failing, his crystal might be working improperly :D or his P4's heatsink frame might've broken at one corner causing overheat. Check here for the breakage thing. If it's broken, KDComputers.com has an aluminum replacement frame for under $5.

General system overheat could be occurring too, is the system someplace where it can get cool air? Memtest86 could help test for bad RAM too.

It could be the generic ram. Start up the computer. If you hear beeps, it is the motherboard trying to communicate to u that there is a problem. If the RAM is bad/corrupted, then the mobo should make three beeps.

P.S. it is probably an airpocket or broken heatsink fan like mechBgon says
