My friend's car was stolen...

:( Kinda sad to say it, but ironically I knew it was inevitable. My friend had bought a 93 Lexus SC300 back at the end of June(paid $9K for it). I've been working this past summer, keeping myself busy having no time for much of anything but surfing atot at night.. but anyway.. he calls me on Monday proclaiming his car was stolen right in front of his front door He lives in brooklyn.. marine park to be more precise. It's a pretty safe neighborhood, mostly old people and an elementary school not too far away. Now he's been very pissed off.. he's been blaming himself... saying he's going to castrate the person who stole it, and for some weird reason he thinks I had something to do with it :(

I was being sympathetic and comforting but he's just mad... plus his parents are not home for a week so he has no ride and uses the train to get to places. He's always made fun of my car.. 01 Chevy Astro... but I feel comfortable when I park my car.. on the other hand; he's always been scared to bring the car to "dangerous" neighborhoods and scared to drive it around completely and the car got stolen right under his nose.. I dunno if he has insurance yet.. since the car is fairly new month and a half.. plus he just got the license plate and registration done..

That's what insurance is for. If he had the car without insurance, you kinda deserves what he got.

He probably just wants someone to blame it on.

Don't sweat it.

I didn't want to point out the obvious to him but he didn't even get an Alarm for it nor did he have "The Club". The second day I had my Astro I installed a KeyPad (you know the engine starter from the Transporter movie... only I had it before the movie came out :p ) So I was always safe :D He was ignorant and wouldn't take my advice.. the cops are saying there's a 50% chance he'll get it back.. and 10% that it will be intact.

How did he get registration and plates without insurance. In WV you have to show proof of insurance to get these items.

Dude, the club SUCKS at deterring thiefs. I watched a special on the Discovery channel about Repo-men, and it took then like one minute to break through that piece of crap.

The club is worthless, you can just cut the steering wheel and take it off. And aren't you supposed to get insurance BEFORE you buy the car? Otherwise you are driving it uninsured and breaking the law.

It doesn't matter. A professional thief will get through any anti-theft device in a few minutes. What you're deterring is the ameture thief. The one who will see that he's gotta put work into the car and move on. The professional will get the car no matter what, in just a minute or two.

The insurance part is a bit sketchy.. he bought the car in new jersey.. the used car dealer did no paper work for him.. so he drove around with his old license plate with out the inspection sticker, no insurance sticker posted on the car. He really got screwed.. and he's been saving money for 3 and a half years saving up.. paying for school and such. I feel bad though man.. that car looked and was pretty much brand spanking new

The dealer in jersey stole it back to resell to another sucker who wont make him do the paperwork.

Ok, I'd REALLY like to feel bad for the guy, and I do... but the circumstances lend themselves towards an idiot.
He bought a car, no paperwork, old license plate (for a different car), no insurance, no sticker... so what proof did he have that he actually even bought a car? The sleazy salesmans word? Hell no, as soon as he drove off the lot the salesmans job was done. In the end, your friend needs to be drawn and quartered so the idiocy in his genes can be kept from spreading to another generation. No insult intended... (not).

You pretty much hit the bullseye when you talk about his level of intelligence... talk about a guy who drives 3 hours to see a 90 minute movie  He just thinks in a way that would make a normal person's mind boggle.. but seems all relative to him... plus he acts like an animal around people without manners and courtesy... (now understand why I've been dodging him and working hard this past summer)

Sounds like you've concluded and solved the case again sherlock

He learned an expensive lesson that should have been pretty obvious. Sucks for him. I bet your Astro van is looking pretty appealing right now. :)

This might sound crazy, but how would YOU benefit from somebody else stealing his car? If YOU stole it, he would see it all the time, right? If you can't understand this, nevermind.

My friend who got his car jacked waited 6+ months to get anything from his insurance company. He didn't even get a rental. This is what we pay 200-400 a month for? Ha.
They make us wait 6 or more months, but when we miss one months payment after being a day late you're out the door with no insurance.

You need better friends man. If somebody accused me of stealing their car I'd be in their face before they can even finish the sentence.
