I think it's absurd to work two essentially mediocre to crappy jobs. My personal thoughts are that one should work hard only if there's a promise of being able to soon work much less. I put in my time now, but that's only to build a foundation of rest later.

Just don't expect to get laid much while she's on residency. Peak sexual activity for married partners on residency was 1-2 sexual interactions per MONTH and it was the single biggest complaint of the non-medscuool partner. Your wife will want sleeeeeeeeep.

I've said this before, when I first found out my girlfriend was pregnant (now my wife) I got 2 MORE jobs and worked that until I could get into a higher paying one.

That's nuts, we only get so many years to enjoy this life before age and/or marriage takes away all the pleasure in it. Retarded to waste away the best of it, imo.
It's not "crazy", it's stupid. Life it too short to spend the vast majority of your waking moments fixing PC's or managing a restaurant.

I couldn't do it, but I won't label him crazy for it. If working is what he enjoys, or if he's working towards some goal, then respect to him. But like other people in this thread have said, my personal view is that life is too short to spend so much of it working. I really don't care one way or another if I'm rich. So long as I have enough to support myself and possibly a wife and children, I'll spend the rest of my time with friends and family having fun.
When I first obtained my degree I did plant shutdowns. It was 13 hours a day, 6 days a week. Double time (double-bubble) as we called it made us first year Engineers a ton of coin. I recall it was something like 6k a month before tax or something along that line, which was quite a lot of cash for a graduate first year out of school.

For a minute there I was sure you were talking about me a couple of years ago, but then you had to go and add that last part of the sentence to disqualify me.

He became VP and controller of a bank when he was 26.
I will be working 80+ hours for a corporation my friends and I created in a few months. At least I will be working hard for our own company and it would be rewarding to see it grow.

This guy doesn't work for Arthur Andersen, he's a tech guy for a community college and a restaurant manager. If he was exceptionally successful as a restaurant manager then I highly doubt he'd be doing the tech work, so it's safe to say neither opportunities are that lucrative. Exactly what will the ROI be on his time 5 years from now?
I use to work in my local liquer store several years back. During the holidays, most of us would put in about 14hr days, 6 days a week. We were kids, but all the running back & forth, carrying case after case was brutal. If ever a customer had a question & I had to stop what I was doing for a moment, it was always bad news(I need 12 cases of xx; make sure it's 97). You come back from the basement with 10 cases of 97 & 2 98, & he decides he doesn't want it anymore.:| We all got paid our regular rates; no such thing as overtime.
My knees definately hate me for that. Taking a step back & appreciating life could do us all some good.
