My friend signed up for a domain name using namecheap, and he has an FTP account

He registers www.example.com

He has hosting at www.longurl.com/jhurley/03/index.html

How can he make it so that when someone types in www.example.com it goes to the site? I'm not sure how to set up nameservers in this case.

im not quite sure what your trying to ask. if he wants www.example.com to go to his ftp server then you will need ip fowarding from whoever your registrar was or you can use www.zonedit.com and that longurl link doesnt work.

Just tell him to login to namecheap, go to "Modify Domain", then go to "Modify URL Forwarding", then set it to forward the URL to www.longurl.com/jhurley/03/index.html

You need to change the nameservers to use in the namecheap control panel, it's a straight forward process.

Before you do it make sure you submit the domain to the webhosts name servers first.

If you don't have the option to use the domain with your hosting package then you will need to change the forwarding address on the domain, which, can also be done in the namecheap control panel and is, a straight forward process 🙂
