My friend needs some help

I am not entirely sure what problems he is having because he doesn't know the technical aspects of most things. He also lives in Canada while I live in New Mexico which prevents me from going over to his place and checking for myself.

Here is what he has told me. He has a linksys wireless router and suspects that his neighbors are ghosting his Internet through wireless cards. He wants to password his router so they won't be able to ghost his connection. If someone can reference a site or explain how to password the router, it would be very helpful.

He also wishes to know if there is a program available that allows him to view where his bandwidth is going to which programs. Not only that, but I would be interested in that program as I am tired of random MSN updaters sucking my Kilobits away while trying to download something.

Any information or feedback is appreciated.

Wireless security is discussed all the time. Start at the bottom of this thread, and go from there. You'll have to get more specific about his equipment to give him step by step instructions.

Do what I do, turn that automatic crap off. 😉

I shall check that thread out and send it to him when he gets home from school.

As for the automatic updating, it is something called usnscv.exe or something of the sort. I am at college right now, so I cannot check what the process is exactly called. I have checked through the options and I cannot seem to find any sort of automatic updates to be turned off. I searched the process in Google and Processlibrary.com and they both came up that the process is an update for Windows Messenger (MSN messenger wouldn't let me sign on and required me to "update" to Windows Messenger. I tried downloading MSN again, but it just gives me the Windows Messenger crap).

If you don't use Messenger, get rid of it. If ya do, check this out. You might wanna check it out a little further, as I see some references to a virus also.
I thought you were talking about MS updates. Turn that stuff off in Security.

Good Luck!
