I was under the assumption that a Hi-8 Camera is analog and therefore the video cannot be transferred to the computer...

To download video?

Why does it come with a USB cable? I don't know.
Analog? Yes.
Transfer to computer? Yes, with a TV card that has a composite and/or S-video port and with a sound card along with a RCA to 3.5mm adapter.

From some description for a Samsung SCL770 :

"Digital Stills
When set to the snapshot mode, a still image is captured and recorded onto the tape for six seconds. You can transfer these photos to a PC with the USB interface. Also included is MGI's PhotoSuite so you can easily edit your photos and share them with others over the Internet."

What model is it?
