I have known Dave since 1988 when he moved into our neighbourhood. He's a nice guy that loves to repair things. He's a certified AC technician as well as mechanic. Back in the 90's he bought a farm out in Lucan, Ontario. He does things on his land like stupid vehicle stunts and then he puts them on youtube. Look up Davidsfarm channel on youtube.

he managed to make the front page of our paper on Thursday and again Friday.

here is a link: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Ca...9/03/10730761-sun.html

He got inspected by a Bylaw Officer and police and now he is in trouble for giving out the Bylaw Officer's work email addy.

$200,000 a year is just mind-boggling.

I hope he wins. I'm not a fan of most "tidy lawn" bylaws. Private property is just that, private. Unless what he's doing is leaving major environmental damage and/or endangering the health of neighbors, who cares what he does on his land. And power to him for finding a way to make a living off of youtube!

Wow that's crazy. I've been thinking of putting more stuff on youtube, think there's a way you can tie your adsense account to your channel which would be pretty cool.

That bylaw officer sounds like a real prick though. Probably pissed because this guy is making all this money that's probably not being claimed on taxes and there's nothing he can do about it. I doubt "making youtube videos" is taxable income. :p

I can't speak for Canada, but I don't see why it wouldn't be taxable income in the US.

I highly doubt that it's not taxable. Also, if Canada is anything like the US he won't be paying income tax to the town so they wouldn't see that money anyways.

Time to start making dumb videos, eh? ;)

I thought Canadians were supposed to be friendly. Those police officers didn't seem friendly. WTF Canada.

Also, WTF that's a ton of cars. But it's not like they're really noticeable from the road.

I know this farmer out this way who's your typical friendly dull Canadian type. Maybe you've heard of him, goes by the name of Robert Pickton. You guys should meet up ;)

Heh, Davesfarm knows no bounds. Never thought someone on here would actually know the guy. Aside from his car stunt videos he makes quite a few really good repair videos. Definitely learned quite a bit from watching them. I hope he wins the pending lawsuit.

It's all about the eyes. Each person who watches youtube is worth a certain amount of money... Those people will then branch over to other google services like gmail, adsense, whatever... It all fits the master plan to have one giant company that does all the services you want. No need to go anywhere else when it's all right there for you. You don't want to switch to the new because you're too tied into the old... It's some of the ideas, I guess.

Yea, he's not, nor do I expect him to ever, make over $14,000/month.
As part of an ad revenue-sharing arrangement with its most popular content providers, YouTube is giving Rock a micro-payment for every view his videos attract. The monthly cheque for July -- seen by The Free Press -- was worth $14,200. At the rate his viewership is growing, his annual income could hit $200,000.

You're using Firefox with adblocking extensions I assume? There are ads on his channel page and the pages for his videos.

But so far Youtube has not made a profit. It seems like it will be difficult for them to make a profit - serving up all that streaming video isn't cheap.
