do they have ethernet jacks on the freeway?

Yeah he is in Irvine.. on the 5.

Edit: THere are no open ethernet ports. But Caltrans has these boxes which have to be unlocked to access the network ports and equipment. He is connected via that.

There's an ethernet plug on the side of the freeway with Internet connection? Hmm.. i am going to setup a cubicle and a desk around that area.. where is this exactly? The 5 freeway is quite long..

Whoa....imagine the possibilities. Passengers could surf pr0n, nef, and play counterstrike on road trips. :Q

Only if it was wireless. Otherwize you would have to stop every mile. 😀

Right....I was thinking of each interstate having a Wi-Fi "tunnel" along it. That would kick ass.😀

Its in Irvine, he is sitting underneath an "overpass". There are some boxes on the sides (caltrans steel cases). You unlock them and have access to caltrans stuff. He works for caltrans and hence has the authority to check it out. CHP will come along from time to time to check what your doing.. remember your right by those idiot drivers. Its loud as hell and headphones is of the need.

Which exits? North or south of the Y?

Sorry I cant tell you because frankly I dont know which one he is at.

There are 3 locations the work out of. Each within a mile of each other. I know one of them is a street that is closed for repair (atleast was when I went by the last time). At that time he was above the freeway not below by the side.

Who says we don't know anything about it? I'm actually plotting to create a mini Wi-Fi cloud on my cul-de-sac since several of our neighbors are both good friends and fellow nerds. LAN gaming and 11mbit file transfers from house to house....how cool is that?😀

www.netstumbler.com they only support a handful of wireless cards though 🙁 Supposedly there are a bunch of open WAPs in Pasadena, at the Block in Orange, and at Irvine Spectrum. Too bad it doesn't work with my Belkin card 🙁

edit:
btw at first when I read your post, I thought he was wardriving or something too 😛 I was like "hey, cool, I drive down that way to get to school every day!"
