okay, i happend to be belaying my other pal, and i looked over at my other two friends who were takin a rope up a new path.

my diagram sucks, sorry

the friend that fell was on the second bolt up from the ground, and was reaching out to clip the rope in, (i looked over right at this point) and he slipped, hit on the opposing rock wall, than fell onto the rough bottom. It had to be AT LEAST a 15 ft drop. I thought for sure he'd broken both legs, or some ribs or something. It was very scary helping him up, waiting for him to catch his breath (wind knocked out).. we packed up and got outta there.

on the ride home, he seemed to be doing a lot better, wanting to know when we were going rock climbing again... but tonight i just got a call sayin they took him to the hospital b/c his foot could be broke, and something is jacked up in his back.

He was the best climber of us all too :Q accidents happen... this one was a real eye opener, he coulda been hurt much worse, plus we had a ways to hike down off the peak.

cliffs:
1. friend taking a rope up new path
2. fell on second bolt up
3. made it home okay
4. in hospital now, foot/back hurting.

paramount peak, the one that fell is in the mid of those two

me

Update: He broke his 7th & 8th vertebrate (compression fractures) and some more compression fractures in his foot :( the doc said he will have to be in a brace for 6-8 weeks, which we are pretty thankful for because it could have been a much more serious injury

Hope it's nothing serious :(

(you edited this part out... something about not having time to post if it was serious)

Hope he can't get up and moving again real soon.

I'm confused.

It's the OP's friend... am I missing something?

Twelve years ago, my best friend was killed while rock climbing in Colorado. "Permanent" anchor pulled out of the wall and didn't stop his fall. He fell something like 85 feet and lived for a couple days afterward. As his mother said, at least he died doing something he loved. I'm glad your friend didn't meet the same fate.

RIP Mark.
