My freind only gets 440 3dmarks with Kyro 2

My friend has a Kyro 2 64mb setup that only gets around 20fps in counterstrike 800x600 and 440 3dmarks.

His setup:
Hercules Kyro2 64mb tv-out
384mb PC133 ram
P3-666mhz
Aopen AX34 pro mobo

I've tried loads of different drivers and lowering the agp to 2x but nothing seems to happen. His old 32mb gf mx card still gets double the performance!!

3dMark is basicly a nvidia marketing tool. Everytime nvidia comes out with something new, madonion comes out with a test that makes use of these new features that no other card supports. How's his performance in actual programs? If thats ok, don't worry about 3dmark

I my Kyro 2 is great.

20 frames/sec in CS? The bottleneck has to be the CPU, because my framerate never drops below 60 (well unless we throw an excessive amount of smokebombs)

3DMarks scores are for Nvidia zealots to feel good about blowing hundreds of dollars on the newest card. It is really just bragging rights. All that matters is real world performance.

This theory is obviously wrong. 2dmark2000 has some features that were only supported on ATI boards.

Yes those 3dmarks do make me happy that I bought my GF4!

I posted this a few hours ago, I reinstalled his computer with win98 instead of winXP and his counterstrike fps went up to about 40. My GF4 never goes below the max of 99 fps

I've payed for bragging rights, gotta use them some times!

Now it has 3 tests that can only be run on a GF 3 or 4...how is that a fair benchmark?

Thats ironic, I maintain 99fps with a GeForce 256 DDR in counterstrike everywhere.

But to the point of your topic, WindowXP is a CPU/memory hog. Try going Windows98SE or windows2k and it should be way faster. You have to remember that back in the day, people only had p2-450s and TNT2's to play counterstrike and where getting around 50 fps.
