My freezy cup is turning my koolaid into a slushy.

I have one of those cups that you put in the freezer an the liquid on the inside (water I assume) freezes so it's like a built in ice cube - I love the cup cause it's like 32 ounces or something insane.

Anyway, I put koolaid in and the koolaid now is like a slushy. Mmm... weird... but mmmm.... (it's like 85 degrees in here, so wtf is the koolaid freezing for all you physics geeks).

well, it's not being cooled by water at the freezing point so it can get colder than water. Hell, frozen water gets colder than the freezing point. It's been in the freezer which is cooled by a compressor and a carrier gas going through phase changes which will be more "heat pump" like and can get damn cold.

I thought if it was water inside the cup it wouldn't be able to freeze the koolaid. Koolaid is just sugar water and because of the colligative properties, the freezing point of koolaid is depressed. Ice water would never get to a low enough temperature to freeze the koolaid, would it?!

Where did you get that cup? I've been looking for one of that size to cool my protein shakes for the gym.

Um... walmart I think. I have two. :)

Actually it's just shy of 32 oz. I can fit almost a whole bottle of gatorade in it, sans maybe an ounce.

while you guys are on the freezing topic, here's a good way to make warm beers VERY cold, very fast
take a large bowl, put a few beers in there, fill with ice, now fill with water (not hot, but not ice cold)
pour a few tablespoons of salt in there - mix it up with a spoon and wait about 10 minutes

the salt makes the ice melt faster
the melting ice pulls in heat from the water and beers
be carefull if you use a metal bowl, i've gotten my fingers stuck to the outside before :\

before or after, depends on how big the bowl is and how many beers are in it
