So far has cost $500 and counting . . .

Hitch for Van
New battery
Tie downs and gas cans
Towable for the kids
Trailer license

Gonna have to get life jackets as the ones with it are MIA

I appreciate the gift from my father however this is a more isn't it funny post as opposed to agravation.

So, before it goes on the water it hasn't run in a few yrs so I decide to open up the engine cowling, hmm electrical tape ? lets look under there, ooh corroded wires lets trace it around. .
Repair some, looks like a f-ed mercury switch $50? we can bypass that!
hmmm looks like a corroded wire right up to the stator. . . but I can't get at it without a flywheel puller . . . . gonna have to order that off the web. .
Hmm stators are about $200, I 'm sure the dealer would charge me $4-5 hun to fix this. . .

Agreed. We've owned our boat for 6 years, and it has been cheap fun.

I have two boats and while this year's repair bill has been relatively pricey, they've been pretty reliable and I love boating.

This year I had to bring the Regal into the shop to get a motor coupling changed (out of my skillset) and they screwed up the transmission cable in the process. I also had to change the solenoid and starter on the pontoon though that only was a tad over $100. Prior to that I've replaced the impeller on the Regal (fairly cheap), serviced the lower transom, plus general fluid changes, plugs, and such. The pontoon had one other issue a few years ago, the part was under $100.

The boat is old , 1979 , 15' fibergalss with 50 HP merc and had been over its life really reliable, and MANY times more reliable than any F-ing snowmobile .

However its showing its age, I'm just afraid I'll get it operational then it will blow the rings out. It's been neglected that last 3 yrs so before I put it on the water I'll minimize the chances of it leaving me stranded. Hopefully before I spend too much 😉

My boat is even older. I have a 1968 Aquasport 22 ft center console w/a 350 inboard, straight shaft. Boats are nice to have. Being on the water is like therapy. As long as you use it, a boat is well worth the expense imho.

And no, it's not a happy day when you sell your boat, unless you already have another one.

Mine is a 19' 1996 Bayliner with the standard Mercury 3.0. I've replaced the propeller when we banged it up twice, and I've replaced the impeller just because I was paranoid, and then I've replaced basic things like fuel filters, fuel sending units, gauges, etc. Nothing major at all.

Eventually this boat will die but we will buy another nice used one. They are just too much fun!

I had a free boat given to me this year also

Needs the floor replaced and new seats ordered. Also had a mouse in it at once time that ate through a few wires. Nothing too major though, easy enough to spec out. The engine and sterndrive are both sound, although its a crappy OMC stringer 400 setup. The old seats are in the back of my truck. The transom is sound.. don't know about the stringers though. It will be a fun project.

Double trailer has surge brakes and I like the lines and color of the boat. Its a 1983 Sylvan with the 120 hp chevy engine.

OK
Have the flywheel puller and couldn't get the top nut off?

So, borrow an Impact wrench from a guy at work and voila its apart
The part I need turns out to be the trigger assy, whatever that is, and from the web that wh/bl wire is notorious for corrosion
So ordered from Iboats $110 to the door but est July 9 before it arrives

Summer will be over 🙁

I feel your pain. My car is down for paint and body work and I won't get her back 'till the end of July. WTF, I'm just going to have to put her away again! 🙁
