Hey guys everyone saw my thread Tired of being a Fat Ass: Help Me Get In Shape!, and since so many people contributed I thought I would share my progress. After a week of working out and eating right: All my limbs hurt, all my joints hurt, my stomach hurts, and I am very tired. Despite all this - I feel great! I have lost 2 pounds! More importantly though I am seeing definition in my arms, legs and stomach! Woot!

None of this is coming easy though, I am working my ass off!

Thanks again for the help guys/gals!

Get yourself a BIA scale. Weight isn't the only number you need to monitor. Target has a pretty good one for $34.99 this week. Just picked it up today and it's quite accurate.

i've been working out consistantly for 6 months (goin on 7?) and I don't watch my weight (just try to eat decent). I've gotten very noticably bigger and stronger. As an example I started benching 60lb and now I can max out at 215lb, doing regular sets around 185 and 150 with dumbells (harder than you think). and all my other sets have increased a lot aswell..

it's really worth it. Once you get into it it's not hard. to shed fat just throw in some high intensity cardio (run for 20 minutes instead of jogging/walking for 40 minutes) and a decent diet (low carb/crap food) eating small portions of healthy carbs and protein 5-6 times a day and you'll lose 1-2 pounds a week.

in a nutshell ;) hope that motivates ya

lol but true as ever.

Good update.

I hope your doing lots of compound movements. Movements with more then one joint that is moving. (Squats, bench press and deadlifts)

You will continue to lose weight then when you reach weight your body will stop losing and you will gain weight as you will be increasing muscle mass. But if your not a *trained* person this won't happen for a while. Depends on your state of physical fitness and health.

If you want to lose weight just do Cardio Vascular and forget the weight lifting. Once you hit your goal then hit the weights. If you are fat and soft you probably aren't in any kind of shape to do any serious weight lifting. In fact if you are a soft pudge you are more likely to hurt yourself than to help yourself.

i see people doing hundreds of crunches but don't run or do anything cardio... months later they stop because they don't "see" any improvement... :D

ah not true. weightlifting will definately help you lose weight. your metabolism gets much better because your body needs more nutrients to rebuild. eventually you're digesting stuff like woah, and you're hungry all the time.

You do want to perfom some weightlifting. Now, granted, you may not want to do some advanced funky split like extensor arms and chest one day, flexor arms and legs another, etc. Just alternate upperbody and lowerbody, or heck even a light full body 3 days a week.

I read a real interesting article from some MD who stated those folks who do a lot of cardio still have a higher body fat % when compared to those that mix it up. He said it is actually pretty bad in marathon runners who don't do any anaerobic and actually have high body fat %.
