So I bought a phone off Plemix while overseas. Still am. Decided to use PayPal because these sites seem to want my CC address matching my shipping address. I guess Amazon's about 200x nicer than they are with this policy, so I know I've shipped stuff from EBay and stuff to work, so my work address happens to be confirmed.

I'll ship my phone to work so that the day I get back from vacation I'll get a new phone on my desk! What a way to end a vacation right?

Well minutes later, Paypal sends me an email saying my account has been frozen and I have limited access. Have to fix this. I suppose PayPal's "fraud detection" kicked in seeing as I accessed Paypal from overseas.

Well I don't want my end-of-vacation gift getting spoiled. My options are
- Have PayPal call my registered #s. (No go... I'm overseas)
- Verify CC with a charge and a code attached to the charge description (Ok, so I have to wait like 48 hours for the charge to post)
- Verify address... wtf Paypal, you don't even tell me the point of this. IT says to upload documents, so uploading a Bank Statement proves that I am who I am because it has my address? I think it's more important that it has my name...
- Verify Bank Acct (Ok, but it doesn't even tell me that it's going to deposit 2 little charges. When I click on this, it leads me to the "Add Bank Acct" screen even though I have 2 LINKED accounts already. Hello, I don't have 3 freaking checking accounts for you Paypal)

So I chose option #2. Gotta wait for the CC charge to show up. Obviously I won't get my end-of-vacation gift the day I show up at work. But of course that's no big concern.

Now here's the kicker. I want e-mail support. I email them asking them what I can do to expedite the process, and if I can speak to someone. Automated response only. Despite my long drawn out email its just an automated response telling me how to resolve the problem by verifying my identity. I re-email with a different "summary line" as to not trigger the automated response. Same automated crap again. Well gee, I can't really call from overseas unless I want to spend money like mad....

Props to Paypal for looking out for me. Screw you for messing up my end-of-vacation gift for myself (not too big of a deal). Screw you for not giving me decent support when I want it.

In the end this may be good for me. I may reconsider my desire for a Windows Mobile Phone and just wait for an ATT compatible Android phone :) I'll take this opportunity to email Plemix about my troubles with Paypal and just tell them to cancel my order..

Cliffs:
- Buy phone off website while I'm overseas using Paypal acct
- Paypal fraud detection thinks its not me. Freezes acct.
- Takes my carefully timed shipment plan out of the picture, because it takes a while to unlock my acct.
- Paypal gives me crappy autoresponse when I e-mail support.
- May use this opportunity to reconsider my purchase and to buy something better instead.

I've used PP for years and thankfully I've only had one bad experience which was a month or so ago. I bought something on eBay, paid with a CC linked to my PP account. PP tried to pay with my linked bank account which I have setup specifically for PP and it's empty 99% of the time. The only time it has cash is if I'm buying/selling and need it for something. Well, the account obviously being empty returned the THREE attempts PP made to debit funds from it to pay my item, even though I had specified to use my CC. My bank of course charged my $36 for each attempt. PP had no intention of paying the fees even though it was their screwup. Luckily I have been with my bank a loooong time and it's a local bank which means they actually care about the customer. I called, spoke to someone I know and see once a week at my local branch and she took care of the fees for me. Super!

So now, I unlinked the bank account so PP can't hose me again.

I get that a lot when I order a lot on online porn. Then they have the nerve to call me 5 minutes after the transaction...
