They finally built one in Chicago and after hearing so many people from California say how cool it is. I decided to take the 2.5 hour trip down and check it out.

WOW, I was in computer heaven ;) All I have in way of computer stores where I live is Comp USSR,Worst Buy ,and Circuit City. :(

I bought some parts for my new server

AMD Athlon 64 3200+

MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 CPU, Model "K8N Neo Platinum" (MS-7030)

I teamed this up with 1 gig of screaming fast RAM I had laying around ;)

Update: This rig SCREAMS blows away my 3.0 gig Dell computer. I loaded windows completely in 10 minutes on this new rig.!!

I think I will visit this place again ;)

I was in that same store a few weeks ago. Left with a UPS, some media, and a drool soaked shirt.

It sucks that it is a three hour drive for me.

Yeah it took me almost 3 hours to get there myself and I never had the hammer under 80 ;) . Damn toll booths in Illinois slow ya down. :(

10 minutes and 35 minutes away from fry's. in fact, im on a 15 mile stretch of freeway that has the following stores: fry's, (2) best buy, compusa, office depot, circuit city, and a staples. price matches are never an issue. ;)

There is a new Fry's opening about 10 minutes down the freeway from me. I am very excited. :p The only other one in town is way up on the north side (45-50 minute drive on the freeway).

That means I now have easy access to Fry's, two BBs, two CCs, Office Max, Office Depot, Comp USA, and, if I put forth a little more effort, Directron.

Yeah, Fry's > * when it comes to b&M geeky stores.

Simply amazing. Can't wait for them to work their way to S.FL.

How much were the parts?

One thing that I've learned about Fry's...unless the deal is advertised, it's usually not a good one. I have a Fry's 15 minutes away from me, and I still buy most of my parts from Newegg, save a few cheap CPU/Motherboard combo's and an occasional advertised hot deal.

Any problems with that system? I have the same mobo (but only a 3000+ OC'd to 3200+) and my only problem is that if I use BT my connection dies after about 15 minutes. I have to reset the router to get my PC back online. I've tried it with a PCI NIC and it does the same. Everything is setup correctly, with port forwarding and etc. It's not a big issue though, since I don't download much anyways.

Anyways, there's still no Fry's down here (South FL), so I have to contend with Circuit City, Best Buy and CompUSSR.

edit: 1111 posts. Yay. *feels life being drained from him*

Fry's is the Devil!!!!

I've had friends that had to switch credit cards (to AMEX or Discover? I forgot) to a credit card Fry's didn't take because they couldn't stop buying things there. You sound like a person that will soon regret Fry's when you see your credit card bill. :)

I live about 40 minutes away from the closest Fry's and that one is like a dumping ground for the refurbished products from the one about an hour and forty minutes away.

only after they rebuilt/remodelled it. I think that was the very first Fry's site.

Of course they waited until I moved out of Chicagoland area to Iowa to build Fry's. I guess that is a good thing for my wallet though.....

they actually moved. their original store was tiny. it's down the street from the original store which was always HELL to park in.
