My first SLI rig

I just built a system with the Gigabyte x58 extreme + a gtx 280, and I bought a second one which will arrive tomorrow.

As the mobo is tri-sli, Will it work to but the gpus in the first and third slots, leaving the second one open (for my pci sound card)?

Also, I presume the dual-SLI bridge will not be long enough; could I use my tri-SLI bridge instead?

Thanks.

EDIT:

The PCI-e slots on the mobo are as follows: 16x, 16x, 8x (The SLI would be in the first 16x slot, and in the 8x).

Come on Anandtech...

I just want to squeeze a PCI card between 2 gtx 280s, which would occupy the first and the third PCI-e slots, instead of the first and second. The Gigabyte x58 is a tri-sli mobo, with x16-x16-x8 as it's PCI-e speeds.

I would use the tri-sli ribbon cable.

I've been googling this like crazy, and cannot find the answer I am looking for. I can't be the first who has asked this question!

Thanks,

Rakewell

I should work, but it would be in 16x/8x mode, rather than 16x/16x if it was in the first two slots. You can pick up any longer SLI cable around the internet and it should be fine.
