My first shooting experience

Me and my friend Matt drove for about an hour to a free outdoor shooting range. (Dept. of Wildlife and Inland Fisheries? rifles only, no handguns)

My first impression is that I can't believe how loud that place is. The way it works is that you have wooden seats in front of concrete pipes. You pick a pipe, and you fire thru the pipe. The sound goes into the pipe and come backs out into you. I jumped everytime, and the silencio hearing protection plugs doesn't do jack, I guess you'll go deaf without it.

I was very very nervous as I've never actually use a rifle before.. my hands was shaking when I pulled the trigger after sitting there for maybe a minute. It's more powerful than I expected, and the smell of gun powder, I will never forget that (as it attached to me for the rest of the day).

At 100 yards w/ total of 20 rounds, I hit all my targets even without my glasses. But at 200 yards, I think I only hit it twice with total of 10 rounds.

I love it! I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to shoot a deer. But target practicing is fun. I heard Mosin's recoil is worst. I guess I'll find out next time. My right shoulder is sore too....

My dad loves target shooting. Always tries to get the family to go with him on father's day. I find it boring as hell. I don't really see the appeal of making holes in paper.

How about human-shaped paper?

First gun I ever shot was at a gun safety course........ 22 ruger 🙂

I then rented a 357 & 45 to try it out 🙂

Yeah I'm going to buy a electronic ear muffs.

Cleaning the rifle afterwards is a PITA. My friend Matt insists that I take my rifle apart and clean it with this little glass bottle of pink looking lube. He says something about reducing the carbon gunk will make my rifile last longer. He didn't think it was funny when I accidently knocked the bottle over and spilled about half of it all over the park bench. 😀

My next purchases is going to be a scope with the scope mount and Dragunov stock for the SKS just because it looks cool.

You need a sweetheart of an AR15 🙂 Light recoil, not too noisy, yet extremely accurate, well the Rock River's are. I love the ones I have. A gun loving woman, where do all of you hide out at?😀

Edit: Midwayusa.com has Caldwell electronic earmuffs for $40 🙂 They work pretty good. I bought a pair.

You should try clay pigeon shooting. Very fun.

Trap shooting is fun. Use a smaller gauge shotgun for skeet shooting imo, less recoil and lighter gun/ammunition.
