My first run through osX

Well, with these topics starting with...windows users are afraid to try something new and thats why they disrespect nix and alike...and such, i decided to try apple.

I took the g4 at the oddice, set it up with tiger 10.4 and gotten reaady to roll. so far i have managed to update the entire setp (a 109 megs download), set up the object doc to my liking, install firefox acrobat reader, winrar etc, however it looks odd. whenever i start ffox, i get this odd hard drive image on the desktop.whassup with that?

anyways, i have learnt how to use the f9 ec keys, and must admit theyre a pretty nifty addon. surfing the net aint so bad, but the mix up of the ctrl and the --//-- key is driving me nuts. switching tabs using ctrl+tab and opening a new one using --//-- +t. still all in all it aintso bad.

another question. where is the home/end keys? i have instances when im typing when my keysash goes up and it takes me forever to get the slash to the end of the screen (i know, most of you would say use a mouse).

and to finish this rant, i will say that im not afraid, but am willing to learn, and as tough...lets rephrase that...different macs are to pcs, this experience is quite interesting.

thoughts, suggestions (man do i need those), advice (i definitley need those) and any other comments go below.

You're running Firefox directly from the disk image. Copy Firefox.app to the Applications folder, then add that copy to the dock. Otherwise it will keep launching the version from the disk image.

Forget firefox, use Camino.
And lose all the plugins?

For home/end, my powerbook does cmd-(left/right arrow). It's kind of annoying since many apps don't respect it (Terminal, and hence vi, doesn't, and neither does Adium) but I haven't found anything better yet.

And instead get a reasonable and fast GUI.
The only thing that bugs me badly about firefox is choppy scrolling but Camino only seems to be marginally better at that anyways.
Yeah, definitely worth it, especially since plug-ins suck.
That's one geek's opinion 😛
