My first new vehicle

I've been looking at trucks the past couple years, and it was time to pull the trigger since I'm not a fan of the 2019 GM styling. Deals were decent on the 2018s, so I decided to finally time. My first new vehicle, my first car payment, and my first black vehicle (any tips on keeping it clean?).

2018 GMC Sierra SLT All Terrain X double cab, 5.3L 6spd auto. I was contemplating a 6.2L 8spd crew cab, but I couldn't afford it.

I had one black car and that was enough. Nevar again!!

Definitely a good looking truck. If you can get another set of street tires though for when driving it on the road, it could save you 20-40% in gas. Knobbies eat gas like nothing else.

To get to my parent's cottage in Canada I'll need to go off-roading, nothing too insane since my Park Ave can make it but it should still be fun with a truck. There is also a couple of trails locally that I used to ride my quad on, but they are so overgrown I'd scratch the paint to shit.

Definitely a good looking truck. If you can get another set of street tires though for when driving it on the road, it could save you 20-40% in gas. Knobbies eat gas like nothing else.

I might get some less aggressive winter tires, but I don't mind the mileage it gets right now (right around 18-20 miles per gallon so far). My Trans Am gets about the same, but that requires 93 octane so more expensive to drive. Cars are a hobby for me, so the expenses that go along are just part of it.

Used truck prices are pretty insane right now, I would have only saved a few thousand going used on a similarly equipped truck with around 30k miles. MSRP on mine was $54k, I got it for $41k. I know people rarely pay MSRP for trucks, but I felt like I got a good deal. Not much pollen around my house (all the trees vanished when my neighborhood was built), but my work has a ton that falls from the trees.

I want to get a few things done in the next couple months before winter hits - undercoat to help prevent rust (thanks NYS) and a clear film on the front to help protect against chips. Also, tint the front windows to match the rears.

My goal is to drive it until the doors fall off...

Those Goodyear Duratracs are awesome in the snow, keep them on there.

Yup - when you can get $10-$12k off a new truck it's rarely worth it to buy used unless you go back 3-4 years.

I'd throw a set of Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners, ASAP. With the maximum height set on the front for 2" of lift.

I bought my 2014 GMC Sierra double cab 4x4 Z71 with 5.3L brand new as well. Only have 44k on it now and its paid off 🙂 Its been a great truck. A few recalls here and there but not much to complain about. I plan to keep it for awhile although an HD may be in my future.

As robvas said those Duratracs are great in the winter, about the closest thing you can get to a dedicated winter tire without being one. The one thing I will say about that tire in particular is to make sure you consistently rotate them and get your alignment checked yearly. Once they start to wear funny they will continue too. Also don't stop at just undercoating (I live in MN, trust me I know the headache) make sure the inner body is coated as well. I would find a shop locally that has done rustproofing for some years as they will know what to do and how to do it. Most dealers I have found, at least in my area, only do the undercoat and don't do the inner body where it is really needed. Those are nice trucks, congrats!

Congrats! My last couple work trucks have been Chevy 2500s and have had zero problems even with extensive off-road use. If you do decide to use your new truck off-road, I suggest removing the air dam before it gets ripped off. You can store it until you decide to sell the truck and then stick it back on for the sale.
