My first LCD HDTV... what accessories do I need?

Hi folks, I finally gave in and ordered a 52" Samsung B630 this weekend. I know I should consider blu ray, speakers etc down the line, but what immediate accessories should I get, if any? Do I need a power conditioner, or just a normal surge protector? Is there any special configuration or procedures recommended for new LCDs, such as burn in or anything?

i have a simple power surge protector.

I don't think an audio setup is considered an "accessory" , you might want to consider using your TV speakers and then waiting and adding up the money to get a nice home theatre setup.

As far as I can tell, you treat LCD TV's and LCD Computer monitors exactly the same, pretty maintenance free (no crap like aligning the magic crystals on projection TVS or changing the light bulbs, etc.)

An HDTV source would be the only accessory you would need to get any benefit from your TV. Whether that is a cable / satellite box or an antenna, you will need something to make sure your HDTV is given an HD source :)

Also see about getting it calibrated. Whether it's professionally or just by using a THX Blu-ray/DVD. I used the THX calibration on Revenge of the Sith and it made a huge difference in the way my colors looked. I can only imagine how much a pro calibration would look like.

Yup, you can do a serviceable calibration on your own with a THX movie and its worthwhile. Blu-Ray players are so cheap right now its a must. Whats the point in getting a 1080P TV if you don't fully take advantage of what it can do (especially with a larger set like you're buying)?

Thanks, guys, good info here.

I'll start off with a normal surge protector, and I'll try to find a calibration DVD - does this need to be blu-ray?

I'm also going to need to bump up my cable TV package...

No, but I know to buy a cheap one from monoprice.com once I get a device that needs it :)

You may want to order them now if plan on getting a blu-ray player or a HDTV cable box soon. It takes about a week to get them on this coast.
