Well I finally bit the bullet and bought my first gaming notebook.
I picked up a refurbished Asus G50VM-X1 on eBay for $599!!

Basic specs are as follows-
Core2 duo T5750 2.0GHz,
4GB DDR2,
200GB 7200rpm HD,
15.6" widescreen max resolution of 1366x768
and at the heart of the rig is a 9700M GT w/512mb DDR3 (fully DX10)

On Notebookcheck's website this card comes in just behind the 8600M GT SLI
...and GeForce Go 7800 GTX SLI setup in 3d mark scores.

As I said this is my first ever gaming notebook so not only am I totally excited about getting my new toy but the price on this was just unbelievable considering these were $1249 at best just last year. Nice to see gaming laptops finally becoming affordable for normal people. One of my primary motivations for buying this is that I work in a teen home where all the kids have is a playstation and a wii and I'm always telling them about how cool pc gaming is.
Now I finally get to share the experience.

Anyway I'm chuffed. Anyone else tried one of these Asus gaming notebooks?
I still have a week before mine arrives.:( :D

Yes, I have the model in my sig with the 9800 GT mobile. I play most Valve games and COD4/5 with it no problem.
