My first "gaming" laptop, are these specs good?

Okay, so I'm normally not a noob when it comes to PC hardware, but since I needed a new laptop for the Adobe CS5 suite (I currently use a netbook for Photoshop CS4 lol), I decided I might as well check out something for gaming too. I was set on purchasing an HP dv7t Quad Core Edition Laptop with the following specs:

- 2nd gen. Intel i7-2860QM Processor (2.5 GHz w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz)
- 2GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics(TM)
- 12 GB DDR3 RAM
- 660GB 7200 RPM Dual Drive (160GB SSD / 500GB 7200 RPM)
- 17.3-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
- DVD/CD Drive w/ Blu-Ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner.

1st off, I KNOW HP may NOT be the best choice, and I AM looking at MSI too, AND I know that desktops are better spec & $$$ wise, but I need the portability lol.

And I know HP laptops only have one fan. I'll buy a heavy duty cooling fan to offset that. And also I kind of don't want to carry a huge clunky ill-proportioned gaming laptop lol.

for photoshop work, you should probably look into a screen with good color accuracy
this typically means an IPS, though some TN panels are ok when calibrated

i'd recommend a razer blade based off of photoshop requirements, gaming, and portability

why not get an envy 15, i think they're supposed to have IPS panels in the 1080p model

you can probably replace the dvd drive with an HDD if you want SSD + HDD, or get a seagate momentus XT as a somewhat meh compromise

otherwise you can look into a clevo/sager, as they usually have lots of panel options

Careful with the Envy 15's. There is a plethora of complaints out there that their "high end" ips screens display reds that appear orange. I only have seen one so I can't speak for them all and it's definitely there in the one I saw.

Why not wait until Ivy Bridge for such an expensive purchase? The new yet released HP dv series seem much better than the current ones. I think buying a current mid-high tier portable at this time would be a waste of money with the newer products so close by.

Take a look at the Asus G73. I have the G53 - 15 inch display and put a 128 M4 SSD in the extra hard drive bay.
