My first experience with Windows 10! WOW!

So I have been seeing Windows 10 Tech Preview and watching the updates build by build but I never cared to try it as I knew it would buggy as heck at the early stages.

Now with the near release of the final build to the public on the 29th of July, I thought it might be time to give it a try to see what it's all about!

UTTER GARGBAGE!! WOW! I am simply shocked by how bad Micro$h4ft can destroy the Windows OS that we all love!!

First of all, this is a Windows 8.1 with more added bloat an non-user friendly settings. I had to first google how to access the Windows updates! I had to go to user accounts then change settings in PC settings, then found it buried there!

Secondly, during the initial setup, it didn't give me the option to customize certain things like Windows 8.1 does, particularly the ability to choose NOT to install drives automatically from Windows updates. Instead of installing my own drivers, I was hearing the sounds of the USB disconnecting / display flickering while it was silently install VGA drivers! Great Microsoft, you choose what drivers I want don't give me a choice to do anything!

Next, big issue, SCALING. In Windows 7, I choose a 125% DPI scaling and i'm done, everything looks right.

Windows 8.1, the default scaling level for me 1920x1080 display is 125% but the problem is, some things look sharp and clear while others look blurry so what I do is, select display settings, then choose make my display settings for all the displays (or something like that) then log off/on again and everything looks right and sharp @ 125 DPI scaling.

Windows 10, that option is completely gone, instead, you only have the automatic choice of 125% scaling just like Windows 8.1 but there is no option to choose "change my display setting for all connected displays" for things to look right. So I tried the custom DPI scaling and chose 125% then log on / off, nothing, the scaling doesn't seem to change the size of anything, then I tried a custom 150% scaling, nope, everything is still the same size.

Next comes the automatically pinned folders. I connected my external USB drives and linked every single folder to my quick access bar! why?!!? why?!!? PLEASE!! Who created this junk OS?!?!

And to everyone who was happy they brought that start menu back, this is no start menu! this is a joke! heck even the metro start menu was better this is a pile of confusing garbage

Then comes the notification center! what is this a blackberry hub or a mobile device??

Snappiness wise, I feel a huge lag compared to Windows 7 in everything I do and this is without a proper antivirus installed, just the useless Windows Pretender!

I was waiting for Windows 10 to be released on the 29th of July to buy a new PC but thank you Microsoft, now I see where this is going.

The only reason I was willing to learn this OS was for DX12 but looking at how things are at the moment, I think this OS needs another year of updates till it becomes useable! I don't know how in the world are they gonna release this to the public on the 29th of July poor people who signed up for the automatic update will only destroy their PC after the update and notice things not working like media cards, FN keys, etc.

Just thinking of this scaling issue, can you imagine the nightmare people with 4K display would encounter?!? LOL

This is what I can recall so far as the number of dislikes I encountered were simply shocking that I lost count.

Windows 7 is the new Windows XP, milk it till it's dead......

Twenty-seven (count 'em, 27) exclamation points. Haven't seen that in a while.

Clearly quite distressing for you. My sympathies.

Technical complaints about a technical preview? Check.

While I understand that the release date is nearing, it's still not tagged as beta or even RC. Get over yourself and learn how things work.

Microshaft? What are you, in third grade?

Very nearly all the complaints just make it look like you never actually used the OS.

Basically, this is par for a berryracer thread.

I'm not a huge fan of 10 either. All they did was give back some semblance of a start button but shoe horned the entire start screen onto it. Like some kind of Frankenstein.

It's funny to me that the one thing everybody bitched about in 8 is now stretched half way across your desktop.

I guess that just like any other issue this day and age it is impossible to discuss Technology without Major "Drama Queening". D: - :p - - ;).

I've wondered how it is that other species are so readily adaptable to even minor changes but so many humans are not. It's sometimes difficult to believe we've survived this long.

I'm surprised it took you this long to make a post like that.
For your own health you should probably stick to 98 or XP or whichever obsolete OS you think perfected Windows.

+1

Also, with regard to referring to MS as "MicroShaft" (sorry, I'm not 1337 enough to go all alphanumeric), and given the OP's preference for Windows, that the OP doesn't mind getting shafted as long as it's just a little one.

While I don't share your complaints with Win10 i have installed it for months on my old Dual Core AMD AM2+ platform and i have no issues and I do not feel it is much different than Win 7. But when i first installed it a lot of functionality was not even there. I am not sure how they will get this released in time unless they hold back on stuff like the Spartan browser or they plan on doing a lot of updates (which they will do if this is they last OS).

Finally, we have a grown up that wants to discuss things, thank you.

What really came as a big surprise to me is that fact that I never tried Widows 10 for all these months thinking, I'm not gonna be an early beta tester, let them polish it up.......so now as we're just one or 2 builds away from RTM, I expected an almost perfect product with a nice start menu, better features, better DPI scaling which crApple does well, etc. Yet I was shocked to see the amount of bugs and no control for the user like even when I disabled automatic driver updates, when I hit Windows updates, I saw it downloading Audio / VGA drivers automatically and you can no longer select which updates you want to install selectively, it's either all or nothing.... pathetic........

this OS basically puts the uer in Auto Pilot mode and lets him control nothing other than use the PC according to what Micr$haft want! They choose our drivers, they choose your spam popup notifications that you get randomly, they choose your blurry DPI scaling. I don't think any amount of feedback is going to change this. Or maybe I'm just being too pessimistic.....

Unfortunately, this OS as it stands is worse than Windows 8, heck I'd take any time of the day over this garbage! Did anyone take a look at how the settings are now even more scattered between the Control Panel and the User Settings? We asked Microsoft to fix this and gave feedback, what do they do? instead of keeping everything centralized in the Control Panel they scatter stuff more now and they remove the option to properly select scaling for all displays so now my text either looks super tiny or super blurry, cannot choose the good ol DPI scaling for all displays..... sigh........

BTW, this is a small example by what I mean with scaling, some parts are super sharp like normal, and other windows are blurry:

rhj08w.jpg

It's the same in Windows 8.1 but you can then change the scaling setting to match all scaling for all displays then everything looks sharp everywhere....... in Windows 10 that option is gone! so you're left with this junk
Here is how I can explain it simply....

Windows 7 - You set a 125% DPI scaling, everything looks perfect after logging off/ on. All windows, text, icons are sharp as if there was no scaling but that was the actual size.

Windows 8.1 - It brought a new feature where you can have scaling for only your current screen and diff. scaling for other screens (let's say you had a TV or external monitor connected). That causes things to look funny, some windows / text are sharp and fine, while others like for example the services.msc, event viewer, gpedit.msc windows all look blurry as if they were running on a non native resolution.

Solution, right click on the desktop, screen > screen resolution, then there is a blue text that is clickable (I think it says make this the default scaling for ALL my displays), after choosing that, everything looks perfect just like Windows 7, and in fact, a bit better than Windows 7

Windows 10 - It gives the same default scaling like 8.1 which is a different scaling level for each display which in turn brings back the same bug, some windows look fine and others look blurry as if it wasn't the native resolution. The problem is, in Windows 10, there is no option like Windows 8.1 to choose a standard scaling size for all connected screens which is why I am facing this issue!

I would've thought that with Windows 10 Micro$haft is going to make the DPI scaling even better but nope, may the lord be with those poor people who have 4K screens on a tiny laptops they would probably need to attach a magnifier to their screen or enjoy super blurry text / windows everywhere

You have extremely specific requirements, and an extremely specific interpretation for how a technical preview meets those requirements.

No man, many people like me have an HD screen on a laptop so the default 100% scaling is wrong. Plus the scaling was perfect in Windows 8.1 you could choose the option to set the scaling size across all connected displays which solved the issue. That option is now gone in Windows 10 so some windows appear right and others appear blurry as I showed you in the pic above. Imagine those poor people with 4K screens which usually need to do a 200 or 250% scaling, that will render their computer useless!

As I said, I understand it's a tech preview which is why I never used it in the early stages. But now while we are almost a month away from the RTM / final release, it really shocks me how these things go unnoticed and I don't have faith that Micro$h4ft is going to fix their new garbage OS

Then don't use it. It's free. No one says you HAVE to use it. Move on.

It's still a tech preview.

Win10 well several builds so hard to judge until we see Win10 RTM version, personally I think it's looking great and yes will be upgrading next month, lets be honest here Win7 is Vista with a minor face lift, nothing special about aging Win7 which is on its way out.

You seem to be ranting about minor issues from what I've seen and on a beta build ie preview, well anybody with sense waits until final build and even then your issues so far are very minor.

End of the day I take Win10 or Linux over Win7 so you know where I stand.

Roll on Win10 :) .

Fair enough mate, I will wait till the final release don't get me wrong I do want it to work well! I want DX12, I like the new icons. I like the fact that they fixed a long standing issue which wa in Win 7 and 8.1 which is, if you connect an external USB drive, it will slow your boot process by as much as 8 to 10 seconds as it is accessing the drive during bootup. now it still does access the drive during bootup but there is no slowdown in the boot process.

let's hope for the best

I have an external USB 3.0 HD(Verbatim 1TB) on my 8.1 PC( connected to native USB 3.0 port),boot time is not slowed on my PC,not had your issue.
