Not yet, thanks for the link. I've downloaded it, but installation will have to wait until prime95 fails (been running 4 hours now 🙂) Right now I'm playing an audio CD, it seems far less staticy than listening to an Internet video stream, though there's still some static.

Prime95 ran 12 hours and 45 minutes at 2.7GHz with no errors and it could have ran longer, but I stopped it so I think I can safely declare the chip 100% stable at 2.7GHz and I'll leave memtest86 running when I go to bed. I tried those reference drivers and I had the same issue that I had with the Soyo drivers. It will play the Windows startup/shutdown sounds (and play them very clearly) but won't play any other sound. All the drivers I've seen were Win98 SE and up, so I'm beginning to suspect the OS at this point. On a side note, I ripped a couple CDs and they ripped about 15x faster than on my old PII-350! The 350 ripped them in approx. "real time" while this system rips them at a rate of ~ 20 seconds per song!

I never used my C-media with win98, but I had my winME HD in at one time everything was fine
played RS for a few months..... I'm with you about the OS, 98 bugged me with all types of issues
even with 98se thank god winME came out or I wouldnt have something to bad mouth more......

Then again this could be your punishment for speaking up about Intergrated Features...... hehe

its lousy hardware/drivers...

haha I may have to, but quite honestly I was quite happy with the onboard ALC650 sound on the 4G4A+ and I expected the C-Media 8738 to be better.

Btw, DDR400 made it through 17 passes/1 hour of Memtest86 with no errors before I stopped it. So I think I'm finally totally stable at 2.7GHz/DDR400.

Looks like you finaly got the sweet spot, after the 4th try on 2.7Ghz DDR 400? Looks uber fast to me 🙂 Throw in a good graphics card and all benchies will double/triple :Q

Yeah, its about the 4th try, I finally had to give in and up the voltage just another tad 😉 Very, very fast 🙂 New graphics card will probably have to wait until around Christmas, or early next year. I figure I'll probably either get a 9500 or the "Ti4200" version of NV30 or by then, the RV350 may be out and in my price range.

I put together a PC for a friend a few weeks ago using a P4B533. I used the onboard Cmedia and the Cmedia ref drivers I posted above. The OS was WinXP. It works very well. No problems what so ever. This guy is a game playing fool and has not had a single issue with any game he plays. Maybe their Win98 drivers are crap. I dont know.
