I have narrowed it down to 2.It will we either a Plextor 8x4x32 or a Yamaha 8x8x24.The read speed dosent concern me,because i am keeping my asus 50x in the machine. As i have no experience at all with theese,my main concern is with ease of use.The primary use would be to record music for a car cd player, and then as a backup tool.So does anybody have an opinion on which one has the better software for a beginner at this? Before anyone tells me to look in other threads and read reviews,i have spent most of the day doing just that. The general consensus everywhere is that they are the two best drives for the money right now.

I'd go with the Plextor, heard a lot more about that one.
If you've got the money, why not the new 12x with the burn proof thingie.

If you have the money, go for the Plextor. The Yamaha's are good but I'd have to say Plextor makes the best cd-rw, though maybe not the best value.

For software, just download a demo of Nero. It is quite easy to use and powerful too.

The Yamaha will work great, plus it will probably save you a bunch of money. If money is no object, get the Plextor, if you want a great working cdrw and want a bargin, get the Yamaha. If the price difference is small, get the Plextor.

That is asuming your discussing the retail boxed versions of both units.

The 16x's will cost quite a bit I'm sure. I don't think Oracle is even looking at the 12x10x32 Plextor. You would only save an extra minute or so and unless he does a lot of real hardcore burning it wouldn't be worth it. At 8x, I just burned a 49 minute cd in 6:50.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, but as i stated in my original post,i am less interested in the quality of the drives,as i am in their software bundles and resulting ease of use.
