The Antec Sonata is a good silent choice. I'm a stickler for silence. The fans I choose are SilenX and are as quiet as you will find. 120mm preferably as the exhaust and intake will give you the best cfm/dba ratio. I have a Thermaltake Tsunami with 2 120mm Silenx @14dba. My HSF for my cpu has a 80mm SilenX @14dba as well. I also replaced my PSU fan with a 14dba SilenX 80mm. If your looking for a SFF for a HTPC then Shuttle and ASUS have a good solution. Only need 512 mem for what you are using it for. Might want to think about a 9600xt AIW for your GFX card. Has a tv tuner. I love my A8V ASUS its stable as can be.

i know the card isn't great, but i don't need it for gaming, just regular tv/dvd watching, really. anyway, is there a breed of the fx5200 that is the best? any help on that?

If your not going to be gaming much you probably don't really need the ballistix ram, getting some value ram would save you almost 100 dollars, and wouldn't have a noticable performance hit. You could also use that money to upgrade the graphics card to something like a ATI 9600PRO. Asside from that, the computer looks great.

if you want a 5200, be sure to get one with a 128 bit memory path, which is different than 128 mb of memory. Many manufacters won't say how wide the memory path is, so you might have to do a bit of digging around to find a good card.

i'm not going to be gaming, but i am going to do a lot of audio recording, and some video editing on it, and i'm hoping to be able to oc the computer--i hope to keep this build for a while.

does the ram still seem unnecessary?

i think its not. for the price he is paying for that 1 stick, he can get a gig of regular 3200 and never notice the difference.
