My First Build. Suggestions Please

Hello all, I came accross this forum while I was making my wish list on newegg and thought I'd stop by in here and see if anyone would be willing to offer me any suggestions on the build below. This is just a tower build with a price range of about $2000. I haven't had the time to double check everything for compatibility issues and such with school and all, so I am sure there are problems in this somewhere. I will also be investing in a soundcard, another video card for the sli feature, and maybe liquid cooling once I fall into a little more cash, but this is the build for now:

  • NZXT LEXA ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Intel Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
SAPPHIRE 100168L Radeon X1900XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Video Card Or BFG Tech BFGR79256GTOCE Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
    OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6700
    CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4
    Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM
SONY Black IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model DDU1615/B2s
    SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black E-IDE/ATAPI Model SH-S182D
Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2B 1 Pack
ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I'm currently going for a new system as well so I can hopefully compare. First of all, I don't see any reason to spend the extra $$$ on a 6700 vs a 6600. Considering with the right motherboard, you can overclock the 6600 to over 3.0GHz, the extra $170 doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I'm using zipzoomfly.com for my config and here's what I have (any comments on what's good/bad about this system would be apprecited - I'm using it for Oblivion play and Video capture/edit):

(2) Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer
NEC ND-3550A 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive (Black) OEM
Acer AL2416WD 24in Wide-Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor (Silver) Retail
Asus P5W DH Deluxe 975X P4/Celeron 1066FSB LGA775 DDR2 ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial ATA Retail Kingwin ABT-600MA1 Kingwin Mach 1 600W Modular Power Supply Retail
Diamond Viper Radeon X1950 XTX PCI Express 512MB GDDR4 Video Card w/Dual DVI, HDTV, D-Sub & Avivo Retail
Thermaltake Matrix VX VD3000BNA Aluminum Mid Tower Case (Black) Retail
Intel® Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe Processor 2.4GHz, 1066FSB, LGA775, 4MB Cache Retail
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 ProSeries Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader Retail

This system comes in just under $2500. If you change to the 22inch samsung, it's under $2000. I haven't made a final decision on the power supply yet and I might go with one of the module corsair units.

Looks good, I would go with the ATI video card, since the motherboard supports crossfire, but doesn't support SLI, since you want the ability to add a second card later.

If you ever plan on going linux, I'd suggest not going with ATI, otherwise go with ati because of your motherboard choice.

That build is a little pricy imho for what you are getting. I bet you could prune the price down with very little performance loss.
