I'm building a gaming system next month after I see Ge-Force 7800 and Radeon 520 benchmarks. The graphic intensive games I play are Doom III, FarCry, Painkiller, and soon Battlefield 2 and Half-Life 2. I've seen 6800 GT is better for these games than Radeon X800 XL (except HL2, which a 6800 GT handles fine). I do not plan on overclocking as I am looking for longevity (I'm on a AXP 1700+ with a Radeon 9500 Pro for an idea of my longevity), but I want to upgrade in about 2 years with an SLI'd card and a Athlon 64 X2 processor. Please keep this in mind.

Case: CoolerMaster Centurion 5 - 66$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119068
(What I need is at least 1 120mm fan, I want an all metal chassis, no plastic front bezels)

PSU: Enermax EG565AX-VE FMA 2.0-SLI - 121$ shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103462
(What I want is Active PFC and 2 6-pin connectors, so a good SLI power supply)

Motherboard: Abit AN8-SLI - 168$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127207
(I want the SLI solution as I'm pretty much assuming I'll get a nVidia system, and a passive cooled chipset is really appealing as I've heard chipset fans can be whiny and annoying)

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice - 190$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535
(Heard nothing but good things)

Memory: 1GB PC3200 OCZ Performance 2-3-3-6 - 118$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227031
(I'm just comfortable with CAS 2 RAM, I want heatspreaders, too)

Video Card: nVidia 6800 GT PCIe from either eVGA or BFG - 353$

(I may choose a 7800 non-GT over a 6800 GT if it's better and about the same or lower price by next month, I'll makea decision on this later)

DVD Burner: NEC ND-3520A 16x DVD+/-RW DL OEM - 49$
Hard Drive: Western Digital 250 GB or something at least 250 gigs, I'll buy this in retail and get rebates and whatnot, don't worry about hard drive - ~70$ probably

some say lite on doesnt make very good dvd burners. i personally wouldnt know. i have a lite on cd burner. alot recommend the nec3520 or the pioneer 109 dont know how much the pioneer is but the nec is about the same as the liteon drive you picked out. i would at least consider the nec burner over the liteon burner.

Lite-ON makes drives for the likes of Sony... so they definitely make good drives. In my experience they're picky with having good media, but if you buy good media they work well. :)

I've used a Lite-On on my current PC, and have had few problems with it until recently. The NEC seems slightly faster than the Lite-On I was looking at, and I already have the good software, so if the drive's better I guess I can try it.
