Honestly I am getting fried looking at all this stuff. Over the past few days I have looked at tons of different options and in this last phase I have changed a few things. I am gonna guess that ati will be very close or better than the 6800.

if goes well I will order this on monday

notice there is no vid card, i am pretty much thinking i will go with the new ati card in a month or two whenever it comes...the question is can i use my gf2mx400 for a month?

when formatting my hd should i format part (10gig) and install xp pro on there and the rest is normal...i am thinking i will install the new drive from wd when it gets here (last one from current computer is dead, they are giving me a new one under warranty) would it be better to have XP on the 80gig ide drive or the new 120gig sata drive...issues with running both sata and ide drives at the same time?

should i buy the office 03 oem? i need something...

anyway here is the link to my stuff

hi,
looks pretty good but i have a couple of comments.
1. consider the nec 2500a 8x dvd+/-rw, at $81 shipped it's a great deal and it is every bit as good (actually, i think better and i've owned both) as the liteon.
2. if you are not going to overclock (and it's a bit unlikely with the mb/memory) you are ok just with the retail processor and the thermal pad. you dont need the arctic silver. though a lot of people here will probably tell you to get it anyway.
3. definitelyconsider a good keyboard/mouse setup. i relly like the logitech mx duo wireless but this is really a personal preference thing.
4. i dont usually partition my hds, i dont see the point nowadays. but if you want to, give yourself at least 25 gig.

enjoy the new rig.

looks good but I would swap out that LiteOn 812s dvd burner with something like Nec 2500, Pioneer dvr107, or Benq 822a.

Dont know if your mobo choice will work with the GF2MX, which I believe operates on 3.3V as against the newer AGP voltage standard of 1.5V.

Also, if you really have to get a floppy drive, you may want to consider getting one of these instead.

Save yourself $5.50 and get this Sony floppy drive instead of the Mitsumi
link

Also by Googling the RU number on the PSU in the Newegg pic, I found that it's made by L&C Technology whom I've never heard of.

Wow thats pretty sweet that it has the little digicam reader built in. I think I'll buy that instead of another little usb reader.

I selected the case just because it has the higher psu which I want for the next generation ati or nvidia card. Originally had the antec SLK3700-BQE but it only has 350watts, I know I could buy another psu to go in the antec but that seems like a waste. Would I be better off though?

So if I dont order some type of vid card I wont be able to run or test it until I buy the next generation vid card huh? Hmmm, think I should hold on the whole computer or order it and have it set here waiting. What to do what to do...

Buy a case without PSU and put in a good PSU.

If you're waiting for next gen videocard you can just as well wait for buying the rest, since the GF2Mx400 will be a HUGE (or small depending on how you see it 😛) bottleneck.

I second the mitsumi floppy drive with the built in memory card readers. It is a cinch to hook up and works great. DEFINITELY worth the $30 bucks.

Also if you are getting a dvd burner why get the dvd rom? I would just get a standard cd-rom if you think you might want to copy disk to disk.

Ok, is the nec as good with copyrighted discs as the liteon?

hi,
if you mean normal dvds then yes. i havent tried anything with game or copyrighted non-movie dvd discs, not many of those around. about 30-40 dvdshrink sessions on my nec2500 machine and no coasters yet.
good luck
