Ok its not the monster i wanted to build but it will do for now. I just finnished getting it all together. I still need to work on the wiring a little, but all in all I think it looks clean.
Here are the specs,
AMD Athlon 64 4800x2
ASUS A8n32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
EVGA Nividia 7800 GTX 256 KO edition (another in SLI coming soon)
Corsair XMS TWINX2048-3200C2PT Timings 2.3.3.6
Western Digital SATA2 250gig 16 meg cache (another coming soon for RAID settup)
SilverStone JT06 full tower case
Silverstone 600w Stryder ST60F PSU
Logitech G7 Laser mouse
Logitech G15 gaming keyboard (on its way from Newegg)

Aside from the non compatable Antec Neo550 PSU that I used first, it all came together without a hitch. I had alot of fun shopping and building this machine.
Tell me what you think. Here are the Pics.........

Nice system, a good bit faster than the P4 3.2C and nv6800 I'm too lazy to upgrade :)

What did you use for the motherboard?

Very nice. I wouldn't pay the cash for the CPU (too expensive IMO, 4400+ is a better choice), mouse (I prefer the MX518) and keyboard (not too durable, extra keys and LCD pretty useless, plus it's huge) but on the whole, a great system. Another story is that I would (and will) wait for G71 ;)

Definitely need to upgrade the monitor to a wide screen LCD or even a killer and big CRT. Better yet, TWO wide screen LCD's.

Very interesting case design, I'm starting to like it quite a bit!

Now just grab a nice heatsink and turn that baby up some. :)

Looks like a nice system. Honestly tho, I'd avoid running raid. If you are going to run raid, run raid1 for reliability (it still gives you better read performance, anyway.. in theory).

Also, have you considered the opteron 170? Overclocked should be as good as the 4800 and much cheaper.

not bad. to be perfectly honeset I think it's a waste of money, but it's nice. Reasons why I think it's a waste?

You can overclock a Opteron 165 MUCH higher than a 4800+ for half the price
There really isn't much of a performance upgrade with 2 full PCIEx16 slots
2 7800GT's perform about 5 FPS slower than 2 7800GTX's in SLI, and you can always overclock them to make up for that.
low latencys do make a difference in ram, but bandwidth makes a bigger difference. DDR 400 ram at 2.5-3-3-7 will be owned by DDR 500 ram ad 3-4-3-7.
Raid is a waste of money
Who needs over $200 worth of keyboard and mouse equipment? My MX518 is 1600DPI, and it only costs half the price of the G7 which is 2000DPI. Anyway, G7 is wireless, wireless has lag, lag = bad for games.

Sorry if I sound harsh maybe I'm just jealous lol :D.

My new rig:

Opteron 165 (peoole have been overclocking this madly to 2.8GHz, and I have a Zalman CNPS9500. Can't wait until my mobo comes)
DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert (this should be here either today or tommorow, last part I need to finish building the system)
2x1GB OCZ XTC DDR-500 3-4-3-7 1T (in most games, there is a .03 FPS increase with the $330 ram that is the next step up, DDR500 @ 3-3-2-7.)
Geforce 7800GT (I have a 6600GT at the moment, once a sale goes through I'm going to use the money to buy a 7800GT. I mostly play HL2 based games like CSS, so 2 7800GTs would be a waste of money for me)
Western Digital 250GB 16MB Cache HDD
Antec Lanboy Case (stupid name, awesome case)
Enermax Liberty 500W modular PSU (awesome for cabling)
Logitech MX518 mouse
Old e-machines keyboard (the only other thing on my upgrade list)

ditch that monitor and get something a little bigger, you wont regret that move and i also heard from someone that the dual vid cards made nothing of a differenece and he's running his 57FX at -2F not -2C with some vapor chill machine so this guy imo is serious about his performance

Points well taken.
As for the monitor, that is the next project. I decided to get the what i wanted in the PC first.
I chose the 4800x2 over the 4400x2 because i got it from a freind for $650 NEW. In fact thats where this whole build idea came from. I agree the 4400x2 is a much better deal at this time if you are paying full retail.
As for the Opteron? well I'm not much of an overclocker and I doubt that I could use the Opty to its full potential
The reason I chose the G7 over the M518 was for the hot swappable battery packs that come with it. And I also only paid $69 for it. But I admit it lacks in design, needs more buttons. And as for the guy who said it lags because its wireless? I haven't had a problem with lag yet and can't see a performance difference between it and the corded G5. I Play BF2 .
I'm not sure what to think about my choice for the G15 keyboard as I havent even seen one up close yet. The reason I chose it was for the programmable macro keys.

Oh and as for the guy who said the Silverstome PSU is too loud? Thats the quietest component in my case. The fan is HUGE. In fact this is the quietest machine I have ever heard. Runs quiet and cool at 47c playing BF2.

Thanks for all your input. Its nice to see what the other guys would have done, if ya know what i mean.

I like.

I especially wish I had that video card, and that HDD in RAID.

How much was the A8N32, and do you think it was worth the extra $?

What was the monster you had in mind? How much better can you get without spending insane amounts?

I could have saved ALOT of money buying it all online. But I prety much did it on a whim and bought it all at the same time at a local retailer (Fry's). I had the money and just couldn't wait. lol

Way to go. First build is always a great and gives one a little pride. Sounds like a neat one. Keep up the good work. Have you named it yet ?
